I rarely attend funerals. I find the burial customs in this country barbaric at best, and am irritated by the way some ministers grasp the opportunity of a ready made crowd to preach a sermon.
Yesterday, my sister-in-law or what's physically left of her as she was cremated was honored at a memorial service. Her husband's sister, a minister, did a great job. She repeated stories shared with her by my niece and nephews, favorite childhood memories. They played my sil's favorite Journey song and the service ended with a short eulogy by her husband who also recited a poem he had written for his wife 41 years ago. It was a true celebration of the life of a good woman.
Goodbye Thalia, may your soul wing it's way onward to the next destination. You were greatly loved.
