Sad news....

When I was in High School Amy and I had World History together. We sat right up front and spent most of the time giggling at each other (as I recall it was one of the only classes we had together where we were so...unruley). The teacher, one Frank Underbrink was...a character to say the least. He made a really big impression on me though I didn't like the class. He was a world traveler the likes of which even surpassed Marv and kept us entertained with stories of said travels. Why didn't I like the class? It always seemed to me that he told stories so much we never learned what was going to be on the test...oh yes, and in spite of my thirst for history now, in HS it bored me to tears.

Last June Mr. Underbrink retired with the intent to do more traveling. He, like his father before him, have been...an institution in Libertyville for years. The LHS library was named after his father. I'm sure, had he been able to, he would have come back with more amusing stories to spread through out the community. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and died on Thrusday.

For any who are or know LHS allumni, please pass the following information on. Lyds, if you can tell Amy for me? I don't have her number.

"Frank Underbrink, retired District 128 social studies teacher, passed away on Feb. 9 at Condell Medical Center following a short battle with cancer.  A 1952 graduate of Libertyville High School, Mr. Underbrink taught for 31 years at both Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School.  He was also the sponsor of the schools' award-winning Model United Nations Teams.  He retired from teaching in June of 2006.

A wake for Mr. Underbrink will be held on Friday, Feb. 16 from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville.  His funeral will be held Sat., Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Libertyville High School Auditorium, followed by his burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville.  Following the burial, friends are invited to the Libertyville High School Cafeteria for refreshments."
