Yo.
So I suppose I should start everything off with a big WARNING: THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD (at least for 'Cloverfield' and 'Vanishing on 7th Street')
So, I was recently watching these two films (and by recently I mean 'Cloverfield' right now, and 'Vanishing' about a week ago), and I couldn't help but to think at the end of them, 'You know, if Sam and/or Dean had been there, those aliens/shadows would have been fucked.'
I was actuallly pretty damn inspired to write something after watching 'Vanishing', purely because after about half way through the film, I kind of got bored, mostly because the characters didn't seem to have an overall goal other than 'stay alive'. Which, yeah, fair enough. But something that makes most movies of this genre especially tense is at least giving them a goal, like 'escape' or 'find girlfriend trapped on 39th floor of tipped over building whilst it's raining bombs and an alien is trying to eat our faces'. Not that I'm being specific or anything. I was just a bit let down, since 'Vanishing' sounded like an awesome crossover of 'Pitch Black' and 'Darkness Falls' and both those movies were awesome...or at least 'Pitch Black' was. 'Darkness Falls' scared the ever living bleep out of me, but I don't really remember a lot of it except darkness = bad.
So anyway, Supernatural. I was just thinking after watching 'Vanishing' and reminded of it again when watching 'Cloverfield' (and all these 'apostrophes' are going to annoy me so I'm going to stop now), that Sam and Dean would not have taken that shit lying down. I mean, the whole way through Vanishing I kept thinking to myself, 'You know, if Sam and/or Dean had been there, they would have accumulated a light source, found a weapon that would kill those MOFO's whilst setting up a base at the same time, and then would have proceeded to fuck those shadows up, with great prejudice.' I mean, it's not asking too much, you've already got a good starting point. That being light. Shadows can't come near light, ergo light is bad, therefore...it's just one more step, how hard could it be? Also, they don't even try to really leave the town until three quarters of the way through the movie, after which they all decide to be even more fecking stupid and leave the kid with the injured guy in the building thats running out of light. Clearly, there are some flaws in this plan. So yeah, I'm going to go and check whether there are any crossovers for Spn and this movie, because if there aren't, then there bloody well should be, purely for the lol's.
Moving onto Cloverfield. WTF man? No, seriously, wtf?
Ok so fair enough, you're going through some pretty epic grief what with watching your brother die in front of you and all, and you want to go save your most-likely-dead girlfriend, who, need I remind you, ISN'T ACTUALLY YOUR GIRLFRIEND. But in the process of saving one chick who dies in the end anyway, you sacrifice...what? Three other people? Three. Other. People. And then you die as well. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Once again, may I point out that Sam and Dean would not have put up with that shit. Yes, they may have had a few issues with the giant rage monster (no disrespect to Hulk), but I'm sure they would have come up with something. Barring that, they would have not only made it out of the city alive, but they would have also saved the girl AND EVERYONE ELSE TOO. I have little to no doubt on this point. Again, I would like to see a crossover of this. I mean, I may be a bit biased on this point, since I love Supernatural to a ridiculous extent, but sometimes movies just piss me off. Why can't there be more horror movies like Pitch Black? One's where there is one decently competent character who's not making emotional and/or irrational decisions and is constantly striving for a goal which is relative to his (if not their) safety? Is that too much to ask?
In any case, sorry for the extended rant.
Occassionally movies make me lose my sense of humour. I mean, Cloverfield was done pretty well, and the shadows freaked me out in Vanishing, I suppose I'm just tired of everyone dieing in home-made movies and nearly everyone dieing in the others.
Rosedraquia,
Over and out.
