OPEN RL: hufflepuff common room

Sep 10, 2010 21:40

[ This is the most comfortable room in the entire world. Small tables sit between plush armchairs and couches, golden yellow hangings decorate the walls, and lamps give the room a cozy glow. The doors leading to the dormitories are round and wooden, and just like that trick with the Gryffindor stairs, the door to the girls' wing won't open to boys ( Read more... )

[And Naoto is curled up in a cushy armchair reading from her Ancient Runes textbook with her pet barn owl perched on her shoulder, as if reading along with her.]

Studying already, Naoto? And here I thought this was Hufflepuff!

[She looks up from her book, chuckling softly under her breath.]

You know as well as I do that I came this close to being sorted into Ravenclaw. [She holds her thumb and forefinger mere centimeters apart.]

Actually, I was bored, so I thought I would get a head start on my homework assignment. Now that I've finished disposing of all those love notes, I can finally read in peace.

I feel as though we should have had an honorable funeral for them...

[She laughs again.] Shall we bow our heads and have a moment of silence?

Wow, my brain breaks just watching you study that. No way am I smart enough for that class.

[She closes the book, smiling a bit.]

Professor Linnfer is really good at explaining the material, though! It's really fascinating, learning about the various development of runes and their real world applications. Many cyphers and codes employ some form of runes, did you know that?

Nope! Didn't have a clue. [He seems remarkably cheerful about his ignorance.] Seems like you're really interested in it, though. You like that kinda stuff?

Oh, yes! I love mysteries. [She's practically beaming now.] When I was a child, my Grampa used to set up elaborate riddles and puzzles for me to solve, with the reward being a favorite treat or a small toy. That's why I'm studying to become an Auror... I want to help people by solving mysteries and apprehending criminals who abuse magic for their own selfish purposes.

[He looks progressively more interested as she talks, and flops down in a seat nearby. He lights up when she says the magic word, though - 'auror']

Oh yeah? Me too! Uh, I wanna be an Auror too, I mean. Your Grampa sounds like a pretty cool guy.

Oh, you too? My family has worked as Aurors for four generations. If I complete my training, I'll be the fifth successor to my family's occupation.

What about you? What made you decide to become an Auror?

Whoa, four generations? [He's impressed, and it shows] Man, I'm the first in my family to be a wizard, let alone an Auror!

[He grins and jerks a thumb at his chest.] Me, I wanna be a hero. I want to save people, and make their lives better, and battle evil, and all that good stuff.

[Naoto's also impressed, too!]

That's amazing. Really. To be the first one in your family to become both a wizard and an Auror. It must be challenging at times, not having anyone to look to for answers... You have to figure everything out on your own.

Me, too! I want to be an awesome, hard-boiled Auror, just like Mad-Eye Moody. Solving mysteries and apprehending magical criminals... that's how I can help people. [laughing] Maybe one day, you and I will be working together on a high-profile case together!

Haha, that would be awesome! Between your brains and my brawn, we'll fight evil, solve mysteries, and generally kick ass! [He laughs] I dunno that it's that big a deal for me to be the first one in my family, though. Not like I did something that made me into a wizard. I just got lucky.

Maybe you're right. Even so, I hope your family has been supportive of your choice in career. I've never lived in the Muggle world, but I've heard stories of some wizards who are shunned by the Muggle members of their family... [She lowers her eyes.] ...sometimes even mistreated or abandoned.

I come from a long line of pure bloods, so I've never had to worry about such things.

Eh, well... [He rubs the back of his head and looks sheepish] They certainly never mistreated me. Problem is, they didn't believe it. First they thought it was a prank, then they thought it was someone trying to, I don't know, kidnap me or something. So I ran off, hitched to London and followed a nice wizard family onto the platform, then sent 'em a letter to say I was fine and they shouldn't worry.

[He grins and shrugs] I go home for the summer every year and they still don't believe me, and I'm not allowed to do magic to prove it!
