Asia

Ekate and I went to Asia.

Bangkok was pretty great if overwhelming.

We took a detour to Mandalay in Myanmar to visit my sister Emily. After that, we bussed across northern Myanmar to visit and e-bike around Bagan which has two thousand beautiful temples, and then bussed back back to Mandalay. We climbed a hill covered in temples and then flew back Thailand.

We went to Chiang Mai, which was lovely, though Ekate found it a bit over touristy. We played with (ethical) elephants and (less ethical than we had hoped) tigers.

We went to Phuket and stayed in a Very Nice Hotel on the beach. We visited the nearby Patong beach which is famed for nightlife, and it was...a little intense.

Next we went to Ayuthaya, with is is a small town north of Bangkok. It was the former capital of Thailand and a major trading hub, and the largest city in the world in 1700. Then the Burmese surprise invaded in 1767 and burned it to the ground. It's got a lot of pretty ruins.

We then went to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. We tuktuked to Ankgor Wat on the first day, which was great, and then ate at a delicious place called Haven, which was a teaching restaurant. We then rented e-bikes again the next day and went to see more temples.

The next day we flew to Hong Kong. It took some time to get used to because everything was in a mall, but we eventually figured it out. We funiculared to the top of HK island and walked down and went to a very nice bar on the 49th floor of a hotel. The next day we wlked around Kowloon and went to several bars.

Then I got horribly sick for a day.

When I was better, we flew to Taipei. Taipei was super relaxing and pleasant. We ate delicious food and went the the museum. We went up one of the world's tallest buildings.

Then we flew home.
