Seems like a good time to update...

Well, as always I'm never that good at keeping up with the updating. But today I am sick with bronchitis and not a lot to do, so it seems like a good time to say hello to all of you (who probably barely remember me at this point!) before I fall asleep in a pathetic, phlegmy heap.

So, the last I posted here, I was wibbling hardcore about the realisation that I did not, in fact, want to do a PhD, and what that means for my whole life as I had planned it. Y'all were so helpful and supportive, so thank you for that &hearts &hearts So I decided to really think about what I want to do with myself, what I like and what I love, did some research...

And here I am in Toronto. I picked up and moved on September 1st (after some online apartment hunting/a visit here in July to find a place). I'm getting the hang of the transit system and the sheer bigness of the city, and I'm doing something entirely different, school-wise. What I want, ultimately, is to be an editor so I'm taking publishing classes here, and I've found a job I absolutely love in the publishing industry (I start my third week there tomorrow!) It's such a huge change from the track I was on, but I am so, so happy about it and about everything I'm doing here so far. Unfortunately I have a looong (1 1/2 hours to get there, 2 hours to get home during rush hour) commute, so I'm in bed by 10:30 like an old fogie every week night.

The couple of bad points, I had to leave the Gentleman Caller at home. Literally the same day I decided to change my life and move out here, he got a kick-ass promotion. So we decided he should put in a year at the higher-paying, higher-level job and then he can come out here and join me, find a better job than he would have without this experience, etc.

The other thing is, I'm not crazy about my roommates. They're nice girls but they put they asshole in party-girl (er. Or something). Come Friday night, they are drunk, loud, have tons of people they've never met over, and don't go to sleep before dawn. Repeat the process Saturday, though Sunday's not bad because they're so hungover they can't do anything but sleep and watch bad television. I'm being as social as possible, but it's very much not a lifestyle I'm interested in so we'll see how this go. Sunday to Thursday, it's not a bad living arrangement.

So I'm not sure what all of this means for my mostly-dormant fandom life. Late night RPGs are still very out for me because of the very early mornings and I'm not sure how my fanfic stirrings are doing. I still have to finish my piece for this year's femgenficathon, which I like quite a bit and is nearly done. But yeah. Not sure. So you may or may not see me more these days, now that I'm out on my own and livin' large.

I hope you've all had a brilliant summer and that your lives are taking you to exciting new places! Warm snuggles and thoughts to you all!
