After my computer crashed for good last April (for the second time-it had crashed about six months before that, but had been resurrected by a techie who deemed it beyond repair the second time), I’d resorted to using an old backup laptop for the past 10 months-which was also starting to break down (constant freezing and all that).
But now, finally, I have a new computer (which was the main reason I’d gone home last weekend)-and, after having 2 PCs fail on me in the past and this backup one also dying, I have been true to my word and switched to a Mac.
The pros-it’s connected to the same account as my phone, so I can literally imessage from my computer, and getting my iTunes-purchased music and shows back is a snap. It also runs very nicely overall, and I’ve set it up with a Mac-friendly version of Office and migrated all my documents here.
The cons-having used only PC laptops for the last two decades, not only is muscle memory is a thing I need to get past, but I only know half of what I’m doing-I constantly have a google tab with “How to _____ on a mac” open. I’m learning, though.
And I’m trying to deal with the knowledge that if I want all my music on here, I’ll have to rip all my CDs again. *headdesk* I’d say that 2/3 of my music are on CDs. I’m willing to let that go, though, as I have all of those songs on my iPod nano from having synced it to my first computer years ago (before I switched to just buying digital).
And I’m also quite amused that, at the time I got the laptop, I also bought a laptop bag for it. It took me a full 24 hours-i.e., as I was packing it up to take it back to my apartment-to realize that the brand name of the bag was “Solo.”
