...I am completely wiped out. The last three days have been brutal; the entire university faculty (and the faculty of all state-run universities in PA) had been on strike for the last three days. For the undergrads, it actually meant they had three days off with canceled classes, but for the grad students, it was business as usual--with added responsibilities if you worked in one of the animal labs. Being the only grad student in the finch lab, I was put in charge of it for the last three days, as my advisor couldn't enter the building as per the rules of the strike, and so I was running the whole show with the help of the two undergrads who started working in the lab this semester. The main thing was that we'd have to send animal welfare logs in triplicate--the log for the lab itself that we usually do, the printed log for the State, and an email log for the Dean. Mercifully, the parties came to an agreement today and the strike is officially over. And I fully intend to sleeeeeeep in tonight/tomorrow morning.
Spending the extra time in the lab, however, did let me get a cute video of
finch!Illya preening Napoleon, though!
And now that I have the chance to breathe and relax again, I can mention the latest news on the Nintendo front--Nintendo's new hardware has been announced, and the rumors of it being a hybrid between a console and a handheld were 100% true. It's called the Nintendo Switch, it'll be out in March, the graphics look gorgeous, and with it being a hybrid, as well as a news article saying that future Pokémon games will be on it, it looks as though both the WiiU and the 3DS will be phasing out and this will be the replacement for both. If that's the case, I will be getting it (hopefully, it won't be too expensive); Pokémon is something I intend to follow. And, as a bonus, if I do get it, I will get a chance to play the new Zelda game after all--it's being released on it and the WiiU. I'm actually excited at the prospect of playing the new Zelda game; I'd pretty much given up on it since I knew I wasn't going to buy a WiiU, but now I can get a bit more invested in the game!
...It's a little bit bittersweet today, though, because someone posted a quote from the late Mr. Iwata from during the development of the Nintendo Switch in 2014 and the hopes he had for it. It's... really amazing, when you think about it, that over a year after his death, things that he helped work on are still being released (Pokémon Go, for instance, which I found out today wasn't just one of his last projects, but it was the project he was working on from his hospital room literally days before his passing), and will be bringing countless people more enjoyment, even if he isn't here to see it.
