So... I've been in India for almost a week now, visiting with family. It's fun, but I did have to make the difficult decision not to take part in the annual July Writing Prompts challenge at
watsons_woes--I've taken part (and completed) the challenge for the past three years, but the fact that I'm visiting family half the month and then have to spend the other half of the month prepping for my presentation at a conference on animal behavior, coupled with the fact that my muse is 100% preoccupied with writing about Napoleon and Illya for when I do have the time to write, made me come to this decision. It is a pity, as I had wanted to explore Sebastian Moran founding THRUSH after Reichenbach and show Holmes and Watson getting help against THRUSH by Lionheart and Kid (Napoleon and Illya's old west counterparts from my "Moonlit Gulch Affair" fic), but I'm going to have to shelve those. Maybe next year... I am still doing the weekly short affair MFU challenges, though--one short story blurb a week is still doable!
Anyway, more new Pokémon have been revealed, as well as the English name of a new dog Pokémon that I had taken a liking to--Rockruff. I'd previously only known the Japanese name, Iwanko, and I had referred to it as such in the MFU/Pokémon crossover I did last month--I had Janet Jerrod (from "The Off-Broadway Affair") have one, along with a Flaaffy and Ponyta--they were, of course, meant to be a nod to the fact that Janet was played by Shari Lewis--with Flaaffy (a sheep), Ponyta (a horse), and Rockruff (a puppy) meant to be allusions to Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse, and Hush Puppy. Flaaffy and Ponyta had been pretty much decided, as there are no other sheep or horse Pokémon (well, there is Blitzle/Zebstrika, but those are zebras and not quite what I was looking for). I was originally going to go with Growlithe for the puppy as I do adore Arcanine, but then I saw Rockruff and decided that Rockruff was closest in resemblance to Hush Puppy (moreso than any of the other canine Pokémon options, and there are quite a few), so I went with with Rockruff despite not knowing the English name at the time--I went back and edited the name in the fic now that I finally found out. I do wonder if anyone caught what I was trying to reference with Janet's Pokémon team; Kelsey was the only one who got it so far...
...I am convinced that my childhood watchings of Lamb Chop are why Janet is my favorite innocent in MFU. It's always wonderful to have a familiar face greeting you in a new fandom; granted, Darren McGavin, John Banner, and Werner Klemperer were familiar faces, too, but they were playing villains, and I rarely get attached to villains (the only exceptions are Veran from The Legend of Zelda and Ivan Trigorin from The A Team--and even with Ivan, I do see him as redeemable, at least with
the backstory I've given him. More on that later...). I have plans to bring Janet into the expanded version of The Eurovision Affair fic I'll be writing (the theatrical spectacle of Eurovision is her element, and she'd be able to help Napoleon and Illya out, in addition to being Illya's costume designer and choreographer), and a brief cameo in the post-Gurnius fic I'll be writing after the Baron of THRUSH arc is done. I've actually started outlining it. I also have plans involving two fics with a dimensional portal device--one involving my other favorite Innocent, Dr. Rutter/Willoughby from "The Suburbia Affair," and the other being a sequel to that, which would be a crossover with The A-Team, which involves Napoleon and Illya meeting Stockwell and Ivan, which would end with the completion of Ivan's redemption arc. I am very eager for that one, but I kind of have to do the one with Willoughby first, oops. And I have to do the Gurnius and Eurovision ones before that because I've been teasing both of those on tumblr and have a lot of people eager for those. Of course, first I have to finish the Baron arc before any of that!
And let's not even get into the short affair drabbles that I want to expand on in the future--the Midas one, the tornado one, the mine collapse one, the Veran one... Gah, so many ideas, so little time!
