First of all, more Rockapella pics! I have
these screencaps from the Zappa tribute and
this gifset from the S2 Carmen episode No Brainer.
And, secondly, thanks muchly to Faye, who reminded me, in the midst of all my last-minute exam cramming, that today is the 24th anniversary of the premiere of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Some of you may remember
the essay I wrote for the 20th anniversary. Those sentiments are still very much relevant.
When I wrote that essay in 2011, my muse had long since shifted gears from the first Carmen Renaissance, that had started in September of 2008 and lasted largely until the end of 2010--that December being the time I met Scott after the Rockapella Holiday concert. I feel like that's the best place to say where that Renaissance ended--after just over 2 years of revisiting what had been my first fandom, I met one of the people who had been in the show. That was the perfect end to the tale.
My muse turned attentions to Hogan's Heroes and Kolchak the Night Stalker after that, then the Monkees and Doctor Who, with some Sherlock Holmes on the side. Of course, I still loved Carmen Sandiego and Rockapella--I tried to keep up with any eps that turned up (not always successful, though I did try), and I did write that essay to celebrate the 20th. Time went on.
And then, towards the tail end of this past July, Sean posted the teaser pics of him, Scott, Elliott, and Jeff at the parody reunion song thing. And like a snap, all those wonderful, nostalgic feelings from 2008 came rushing back to me--and it followed up with Sean posting the solo version of his "Follow Me to Heaven" MV later in August. I definitely have to credit Sean for kickstarting this 2015 Carmen Renaissance. And while I don't know how long it will last this time around, I am pretty confident that it will last for quite a while.
So here's to you, Sean, Scott, Elliott, Barry, Jeff, Greg, and Lynne. Thank you for this wonderful show.
