Monkees Concert 2014!

I attended a Monkees concert last night! It was awesome and fun--and I got to meet up with a tumblr buddy and with 1bigbeatlesfan.

Trying not to reveal the entire setlist for those who want some amount of surprise, but I do have mention a few, so here are the highlights:

* Peter acting adorable, as always--acting so surprised when he's introduced and when the follow spot shone on him for the first time

* Nez also acting adorable--thanking us every time we cheered after his songs. And giving genuine smiles! Nez smiles may be rare, but we were blessed with several that night! And yes, he wore the Jimmy Choos (and, at one point, the Monkees logo on the screen was a matching glittery silver, too).

* All three of them being adorable, really--striking poses while they sang and played instruments.

* The video clips/footage that they played during the songs were perfectly time, and it was a great way for Davy to still be a part of the whole thing (not that he wasn't there in spirit, of course, because he totally was)

* Peter's dancing. Just seeing him moving and grooving like he was still in his 20s... Amazing.

* Micky doing this amusing stunt with the mic stand where he lets it lean over, and then he does a spin, picking it up before it falls. Peter then tries it, but Micky steals the mic stand back before he has a chance to follow through. And Peter is left standing there with an adorable WTH look on his face.

* The beautiful, slow rendition of "Sweet Young Thing" (complete with Nez enunciating the "thing-uh")

* "Shades of Gray." I cried.

* Peter introducing... Nez's jacket. Yep. Basically, Nez was modeling his jacket while Peter was praising his songwriting prowess... so Peter did the logical thing and introduced the jacket, too.

* Nez and Peter doing the "missed high-five" thing.

* Micky psyching all of us out during the intro for "No Time." Well played, Mr. Dolenz. Well played indeed.

* Nez casting aside any notion of him being "the serious one" during "No Time" by belting out "THIS IS MY VERSE! MY VERSE!" during the instrumental bit after Micky and Peter sang the first two verses (if anyone heard an unearthly shriek of laughter at this point, that was probably me. Sorry about that...).

* Slightly disappointed that there was no "Daily Nightly" this time around, but I suppose that one can only impersonate a Moog so many times before the novelty wears off. That said, there were other awesome songs from the PAC&J album that evening, which were wonderfully done.

* Just the cute interactions and banter with each other. Teasing and snarking and offering water bottles...

* "Daydream Believer." Cried again. The three of them singing, and then leading the whole theater into singing the chorus. Oh, it was a beautiful, beautiful moment, and you could feel Davy's presence there, too.

* Of course, the unofficial anthem of "Listen to the Band" as one of the two encores.

All in all (in all in all), a wonderful, magical evening. It doesn't matter if you've seen them before or if it's your first Monkees concert--anyone else with tickets for the upcoming shows will have a wonderful time!
