I had quite a bit of nostalgia yesterday; yesterday was Sean Altman's birthday, so I listened to my Rockapella/Rockapella solo playlists, to celebrate (and I wished him happy birthday on FB, as well). Sean always comes up with the catchiest melodies. And during the Carmen days, he never failed to make laugh. And it's wonderful to see him so active now, as well.
And I also have been having even more Super Mario nostalgia, was well! I took a look on the Mario Wiki, and, apparently, the first cartoon series, based on Super Mario Bros 2, actually has Luigi's characterization closer to his current game-verse self than the later cartoons based on SMB 3 and Super Mario World--and after seeing a couple eps, it really does seem to be true! There's one ep where they have to go to a haunted castle to escape the rain, and Luigi is in a constant state of #NOPE in regards to all the spooky stuff, which is on par with his in-game persona, and the whole thing was reminiscent of Luigi's Mansion. The SMB 2 cartoon was also famous for live-action skits featuring the brothers' misadventures at their Brooklyn residence; they are hilarious and very Monkees-esque--a vampire turns up in their basement, they hold a seance and have their dead grandmother chide them for keeping the place messy, their niece (implying that there's a third sibling out there!) drops by with her entourage of friends and takes over the place with a loud party, and so on. Oh, gosh, it's brilliant and hilarious. I remember seeing the skits a long time ago when I was a child, but since the SMB 3 and SMW cartoons aired after, I remembered them better, and Luigi was braver there than in the SMB 2 cartoon, leading me to get the mindset that his cartoon persona was considerably more different in all the shows, when it was just the latter two. I shall be devoting much more time to the SMB 2 series. Yesssss. Faye and I are both delving into this and enjoying it immensely.
And speaking of Luigi's Mansion, I gave into temptation and started Dark Moon last night (I had wanted to wait until I beat Pokémon Platinum, but with me diving headlong back into the Mario-verse, I had no chance to resist). It's mission-based; basically, Luigi is drafted by Professor Gadd from the first game to capture the wayward ghosts and gather pieces of the shattered Dark Moon, which made the ghosts go mad in the first place. And what's really interesting is that, as is condition normal, Luigi is in a constant state of #NOPE throughout the whole thing, but, this time, he's going through with it just because Professor Gadd asked him to. In the first game, Mario had been captured by the ghosts and Gadd had helped Luigi find him, so it's highly likely that Luigi is helping Gadd now out of gratitude... At any rate, I've completed the first three missions, but keep getting stuck in the fourth one, on account of one pesky ghost that keeps KO'ing Luigi with a rolling pin. ...Yes, you read that right. Still, it's a highly enjoyable game!
