The 30-Day Fandom Meme: The Monkees, Day 30, plus other meme

May 29, 2012 15:50

Meme from spreckenzeedeu. It was one of those "Comment to get a mini-interview of 7 questions" ones and repost to your journal. Here're the questions she asked me:

1) Do you do any sports? if so, which one?
I don't play sports myself. And I tend not to care for them. I will follow the escapades of my part of the state's football team (because in this part of state, you're pretty much required to, LOL...). The only sport I do have interest in is cricket.

2) If Scotty could really beam you up, where would you go to right now?
...European Tour. That is all.

3) In which color do you [think you] have the most clothes?
Blue, probably. And purple, as well...

4) Name one of the worst movies you've ever seen (and why you think it's bad)!
Urgh, without a doubt, 2012. I mentioned in an old entry last year that I had been forced to watch it in a geology class (inaccuracies were everywhere...). I don't like those kind of apocalyptic doom-and-gloom movies. Nightmare fuel. Just... nightmare fuel.

5) What's your favorite cookie or cake?
Hmm, for cookies, it's chocolate chip; I have a particular weakness for the reduced fat Chips Ahoy cookies--there one of the few storebought cookies that don't have eggs, and I've adored them since I was a little kid.
For cake, I love and adore lemon cake. Storebought cake always has eggs in it, so I have to make it from scratch, but it is *so* worth it.

6) What would you rather like to do: flying through space or diving down the ocean?
[biology geek]The ocean, hands down. And watch all the undersea animals at work...[/biology geek].

7) Who's your favorite cartoon character?
Hmm. I actually have a lot that I can't choose from, so I'm splitting them into different categories of cartoons:
Anime: Seto Kaiba, from Yu-Gi-Oh. He is such a multifaceted character, despite coming across as a cold businessman initially.

Disney: Scrooge McDuck. Pretty much what I said about Seto applies here--only instead of a cold businessman, Scrooge initially comes across as a greedy businessman (er, businessduck...?), but then you get to see all the multiple facets to his character, as well.

Non-Disney/Non-Anime: ...Obligatory mention of animated Davy from his ep of Scooby-Doo. But, also, Scooby himself. The classic Scooby-Doo cartoons were my first non-Disney cartoons, and I just adored them--the really are timeless.
And I am amused that Davy's first reaction upon meeting Scooby for the first time was his assessment that Scooby was "an unusual-looking animal" rather than being surprised at the fact that the dog was talking. Then again, seeing as though he's seen a heck of a lot of weird things while with the Monkees, perhaps Davy thought that a talking dog was par for the course...

I have been musing over the thought of an actual Monkees/Scooby-Doo crossover, but it's not as easy as you might think--mainly because I set up the whole thing as Davy being the Earl of Hagglethorn as part of the curse that Mr. Zero cast on him and the other Monkees in the Red Sky fic. In the actual SD episode, Davy's uncle Sedgewick is the true Earl, so the only feasible way for an SD crossover (where Davy meets up with Mystery, Inc again and introduces them to the other Monkees) to fit in my timeline would literally be something where, after Mr. Zero's curse is broken (come on, you don't really think I'd write an unhappy ending, did you?), they find where Zero had been keeping Davy's uncle, and someone with authority in the matter says, "Oh, we found your lost uncle, so you're no longer the Earl of Hagglethorn, so you can go back to Malibu with your crazy friends if that's what you really want." ...On the other hand, that's sort of the random thing you'd probably see in The Monkees, so it just might work. LOL. And, of course, Davy would take the Pad over the Hall anyday. At any rate, I might experiment with a blurb first.

And now, Day 30, the final installment, of the 30-Day Fandom Meme (Monkees TV-verse): A Moment You Love With Your Favorite Character

Again, how can a mere fangirl choose just one? There are so many wonderful Davy-Mike friendship moments... Well, I have narrowed them down to six!

* Mike consoling/advising Davy in the pilot ep after Davy finds out that he's the indirect cause of Vanessa failing her history exam.

* Davy consoling Mike in "I've Got a Little Song Here" after Mike realizes he's been scammed. All three of the others take their turns trying to console him, but Davy goes first, and he stay while the others come and go during their turns.

* Mike consoling/advising Davy (noticing a pattern here? XD) in "The Prince and the Paupers" after he wonders if Ludlow and Wendy will be alright since he had been the one to court Wendy (and Mike's subsequent butterfly/appleseed analogy that even he has no idea of what it means, LOL).

* Davy reviving Mike in "The Spy Who Came in From the Cool" after Tiger Madame Olinsky KOs Mike with a karate chop to the shoulder. She takes off after that, so Davy takes out his vengeance on her accomplice, Boris.

* The adorable hilarity of Davy holding a phone receiver in his mouth while Mike sings "Sweet Young Thing" into it in "Find the Monkees (The Audition)" ep. It's so cute and amusing--especially when Davy accidentally bops Mike on the nose a couple times with the receiver. And, best of all, Mike is trying not to crack up. I don't think I'll be able to listen to "Sweet Young Thing" without picturing that scene.

* Mike consoling Davy yet again at the end of "Monkees in the Ring" when Davy finds out that all of the fights he won were fixed, and Mike cheers him up. The dialogue is just so squee-worthy:
Davy: So, all of those fights were fixed...
Mike: Well, that's okay. I mean... You know... Maybe you're not a great boxer. But you're gentle and you're kind and you're sincere.
Micky: That's right, Davy!
Mike: Yeah, and what's more... You're a good friend and a great musician and a great man.
