Yet another multipurpose post...

Oops, it dawned on me that I never did make that post about all the Darren McGavin and Simon Oakland shows/movies I had seen. Well, for one thing, I saw the two-part Combat eps "The Long Way Home," in which Simon played a WWII sergeant who, along with his men, had been captured in a Stalag, where they are tortured for information, but refuse to ( Read more... )

I don't remember having seen that particular Monkees episode, but it does sound very interesting, mixing comedy and fantasy like that.

Wha...? You haven't seen "The Devil and Peter Tork"?! It's so intense and awesome, and definitely one of my most favorite eps. Basically, Peter wanders into a pawn shop that's owned by the Devil (who is referred to in-universe as "Mr. Zero"), who gets Peter to sign a contract that promises that he'll turn over his soul to Mr. Zero in exchange for the power to play a special harp and become a success. Mr. Zero eventually comes to collect Peter's soul, and, of course, the other Monkees will have none of it. You simply must see this ep!

Okay, off topic, but before I forget and from looking at your icon, did you say you picked up Black or White again? Got Black yesterday, and so far really enjoying it. :D

Nope, none of that rings a bell. I'll have to see it then.

I got White, but I can't use it for another 2 months. XD No spoilers, please; I want my White run to be totally blind--I know absolutely minimal things about Generation V (I only researched the starters so that I'd know who I'd want to start with--and I'm starting with Oshawott. Who did you start with/what did you name him?), so I want to discover everything for myself like I did with Generation I more than a decade ago (gah, I feel old...). The Platinum run is going to be semi-blind; I had to look some stuff up because it's going to influence my HeartGold run.

Yes, you do!

Isn't it a bit risky to buy games but not be able to play them for a while? By then, it would be too late to return them if they didn't work or something. Could you tell me which games you got again, and which ones you're allowed to play now ( ... )

It would be risky if you're buying them online. I bought White and OoT from Wal-Mart and Platinum and HeartGold from Best Buy by actually going there and making sure everything was newly sealed (that is how I prefer to buy games--I've only ever bought games online when I was sure I could test them right away--and I always, always, *always* buy new/sealed). The only one I can play now is HG.

Ah, Tepig. Though I wonder what Paul would think if he heard that someone named a fire pig after him. XD; (Of course, I'll be naming my Oshawott after Scott Leonard and my Piplup in Platinum after Davy Jones, so I'm hardly one to talk...)

Nope, I'm playing HG first--I can't play Platinum yet. I researched some plot points because Platinum is going to be a direct sequel to my HG run, and the version mascot, Giratina, is going to play a role in my HG run.

Which Pokemon games do you have already? [As in for the GB/GBC/GBA/etc.]I have had ( ... )

Mom and I have had some problems with Best Buy's return policy in the best, so we generally don't buy video games from them, only movies and CDs. I got Black from Disc Replay, a used game store by my house, and OoT, Platinum and SoulSilver from Game Stop. OoT was used, but still came in its original packaging. So far, I haven't had a trouble buying used games/ only the cartridges from Game Stop, as SoulSilver, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, etc. have worked like a charm ( ... )

HeartGold is *awesome*. I think my favorite part of it is how you can talk to your Pokémon and interact with them--it's the only game that lets you do that with any Pokémon. I only wish there was a way you could activate the wi-fi feature so we could both battle.

LOL, well, in my other Nuzlockes, I didn't name them after musicians--I started with LeBeau the Charmander in FireRed, after all, and Max the Totodile in HeartGold. Oh, and Raoul the Torchic in Sapphire.

Speaking of runs, when are we going to see the next installment in your Nuzlocke fic? It's been ages!
Working on it!

LOL, well, people do blind Nuzlockes all the time--I'm confident I'll be alright, since I usually overgrind...

Well, I'm not into Kid Icarus at all.

Yeah, I too wish we had Wi-Fi. I know that there are places that offer free Wi-Fi, and I had been thinking about that, except Dad keeps telling me it's not completely safe because it's easy for the next person to hack you. I have noticed that difference among the other games. It is pretty awesome to see your Lugia following you around. :D

Who's Raoul? What's a Torchic?

And are we ever going to see Newkirk saved from Veran? Not in the RP session, mind you. ;)

Yeah, I don't think I've been grinding enough lately. Got to an area where both the Pokemon and trainers are pretty tough, for me anyway.

May I ask how so? Other than that you're an Ancient Egyptian fan over Ancient Greek or Roman? ;)

Yeah, free wi-fi hotspots are not secure. Not only can you follow them around, you can talk to them, and they'll do various things. Lt. Schrank, my Arcanine, has been giving me flowers for a while now. X3

Raoul = Raoul de Chagny from Phantom of the Opera; in my fics, he is LeBeau's grandfather. Torchic is the fire starter of Hoenn. I named my Torchic Raoul.

I'll try to get to that, too. XD

Yeah, level-grinding takes patience, but you need to keep at it.

Well, it's just never appealed to me.

I'm confused by your first paragraph. I think you meant to make that two separate ones?

Ah, looking him up he does look familiar. But, why is everybody obsessed with Mudkips?

I know, but when I'm playing at night, grinding actually puts to sleep by its repetitiveness. XD

Reply

rose_of_pollux April 7 2012, 20:46:31 UTC
Yeah, it's supposed to be separate, but you hadn't separated your first paragraph in the one before that, either. I was just keeping the format same. XD;

The Mudkip thing is rather dumb, actually--someone made up a crazy story that I don't know or care about (the story is also supposedly offensive, which is why I haven't looked into it, being the prude that I am), so everyone picks him. Me, I've always been a Torchic user.

*shrugs* Okay, then, but you do realize that you lose money whenever you lose a match, right? Level-grinding prevents that from happening.

Technical writer/reader you are. XD Oh, and I did end up voting in the PBAs after all, after I found I read more than I thought. Best of luck to you! :D

I think I should probably figure out my Platinum game, sooner or later. But for now, need to finish Kanto in SoulSilver and having too much agonizing fun with Black. But, why is a White Pokemon on Black and a Black Pokemon on White? Do you have any idea how confusing that is?

Yeah, I've had that happen already--twice. *winces*

Thanks!

Well, if you wait for a couple months, we can discover Platinum together...

But, why is a White Pokemon on Black and a Black Pokemon on White? Do you have any idea how confusing that is?
I think it's supposed to symbolize a Yin-Yang.

I rest my case...

We could, especially since I'll be in summer then. But I'm taking summer school classes, so I'll be a bit behind you.

I suppose so. Though, for the longest time I called the games by the opposite name because of the Pokemon's color.

Objection! Losing money isn't important when you have the amulet coin. [Okay, it is, but don't want to admit that you're right. ;) ]

Yeah, but I'll be spending so much time level-grinding, you'll catch up. XD

*shrugs*

Objection overruled. XD
