30-Day Fanfiction Meme, Day 17

I was writing a musing for the tribute blog yesterday that got me thinking about how I love understated humor. Understated humor can be so hilarious if done right, but it's very difficult to do. I think that's why I find writing humor fics so difficult--I try to go for the understated humor rather than cracky humor, and it is a bit of a challenge. I think that's why I usually end up writing dramedies--I can write drama fairly well, and I can add in moments of understated humor that provide a nice change in mood.

Anyway... the fanfic meme, day 17: Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

Yes, titles can be so difficult! If the fic is inspired by a song, I'll try to have a title inspired by the lyrics, wherever possible. And I do come up with individual chapter titles--again, if the fic was inspired by a song, I try to have the chapter titles (wherever possible) be inspired by lyrics. For fics that haven't been inspired by songs... it's literally a toss in the air. Sometimes, I'll throw iTunes on shuffle in the hopes that a song can somehow inspire a title.

Also, when I have fics that are direct sequels to each other, I try to have the fic titles relating to each other, as well. For example, my Yu-Gi-Oh mystery trilogy has all three titles in German ("Geheimnisse im Tanzsaal," "Folgen Sie Ihrem Traum," and "Eine Mitternachsstimme"), my supernatural Hogan's Heroes trilogy will have "Fortune" somewhere in the title, which is why I call it my "Fortunes trilogy" ("A Soldier of Fortune" is the only one written, but the other two will be "Fortunes of War" and "O Fortuna"), and my post-war Hogan's Heroes Cold War project all have fic titles inspired by Rockapella songs ("Follow Me to Heaven," is the only one I've written so far, but the others will be called "An Island Called Manhattan," (Zombie Jamboree) "Everyone Knows it's Windy," (one of their Carmen song parodies) and "A Boat to Bermuda" (Let's Get Away From it All)), though a couple of my non-Cold War series fics were also inspired by Rockapella songs, as well, but, still... you get the general idea.
