I haven't posted in FOREVER because real life is kicking my ass (stage managing two plays at the same time will do that to a gal), but after last night's TVD and all the reactions I've been reading to the episode online, I had to weigh in with a brief thought.
Now, I love Damon/Elena and Stefan/Elena equally, and I'm OT3 all the way, but I firmly believe that Damon/Elena is the couple we're headed toward, even after last night's episode, which was obviously very Stefan/Elena focused. Even with all the epic love talk, and Caroline playing matchmaker, and Stefan and Elena semi-awkwardly feeling each other out as romantic prospects again, it would just be the most BORING choice for the writers to make, and I think they know that.
Looking at it purely statistically, they know they'd be doing the same romance that they did for the first two seasons, and that's just stupid, from a narrative and a business perspective. All the writers are trying to do is to shore up the Stefan/Elena dynamic so that her choice can be on an equal level, and also so that they could conceivably get back together in like, season 5. And also because they're painfully stalling Elena's decision until the finale. Either Elena will choose Damon at the end of the season, or herself. Mark my words.
This is not to say that I'm not pissed that Elena and Stefan are not actually dealing with any of Stefan's wrongdoings, and that she's not allowed to tell him to go fuck himself and his "permission" to let her explore her feelings, or that we haven't seen any characters holding Stefan responsible for his actions and realizing that he and Damon are equally horrible/wonderful, and that there is no good brother or bad brother. I am. But as far as Stefan and Elena getting back together? I'm not even worried. It's not time for it, and it's the most uninteresting narrative choice. Just my two cents.
Side note: ALARIC. I love you and I will miss you. All the tears, especially because step-daddy Alaric and Damon's BFF Alaric and hero Alaric were in full force. Just, UGH. So much sobbing. (But I bet evil-vamp-you will be brutally hot.)
Also, can I share this bit of hilarity with any Game of Thrones fans out there? The other night, I'm talking to my mom on the phone, and apparently my dad and a family friend were watching GoT in the background, which my mom exposits to me, but what does she call the show, you may ask? She refers to it as "Throne of Crowns." She actually thought that was the title. I legit cracked up for like a year. She's so adorable.
Plus, this is the same woman who confessed to me during yet another phone conversation, "You know, I've always been such a Stefan/Elena fan, and I NEVER thought I'd say this, but after seeing that motel scene with Damon and Elena? I'm rooting for Damon all the way!" God love my mother for always letting straight up lust and sexiness rule her emotions. She's shameless! I love it.
