Magic and the Changeling

Raphael and I have been teaming up to study together in the library, searching for ways to overcome or destroy the changeling. We say overcome, because Raphael seems to think that there is a slight possibility that we shouldn't rule out that the changeling could be converted to good, like Ms. Pele was... Apparently, a lot of Yugi's ex-enemies have been converted to good. Raphael is a very interesting person once you get him talking. He knows a lot about this.

However, he's more scientifically-oriented, while I'm more magically-oriented. I believe in Forteana - magic, and all things supernatural and phenomena yet to be explained by science. Imagination is the greatest power we hold, and it should not be tossed aside lightly without consideration!

Science has three limitations. The first one is the very thing that gives science its definition, its bedrock: the Controlled Experiment. This means that you control all aspects of the experiment, you change one factor in one test and compare it to the unchanged test to observe the differences. This is science. I like to use the scientific method in my work, but I don't disbelieve in ghosts simply because I cannot explain it yet!

The second and third things that limit science is instruments and units - in that order. Everything is done with instruments. With magic, we can be our own instruments. All things in science is measured in units: kilograms, liters, meters, etc. How do we measure magic? Raphael suggested units of enthalpy, which seems to make a lot of sense to me. But that's working under the assumption that magic is the equivalent of energy, or some form of energy, even.

So, what do we know about the changeling? Ms. Pele has suggested that is a demon, which means it's magical - a creature of Forteana! So, we need to know a few things about the changeling before we can devise a magical means of controlling, apprehending, maiming, or destroying him. Ms. Pele has provided Yugi with a magically-imbued weapon that can hurt or kill it. Problem solved? Perhaps not... Let's consider the following:

1. Is the changeling a creature of the supernatural? Or is it just a creature? Ms. Pele is convinced that it is a demon, which I'm willing to believe.

2. If the changeling is of magic, is the magical source located within the creature, or is it located elsewhere? Where is the source of magic sustaining the creature coming from?

3. Can the changeling "do magic?" In other words, use magic or its supernatural powers to alter the environment? (It's surroundings, and by alter I mean add, subtract, and/or change one thing to another in its nature.)
~ If the changeling cannot "do magic," then this is much easier for us.
~ If the changeling can do magic but not control it consciously, then this is troublesome, for this is unpredictable.
~ If the changeling can do magic and can control it consciously, this is more dangerous but easier to predict.

Those are my three hypotheses. I look forward to your thoughts and discussion!
