Nothing much new to report

But it's only half ten and I've exhausted my supply of DVDs, books, and things to sew. Also the people in the house to my left have a small child that only ever seems to cry after ten at night when I'm on the computer right next to the wall separating us.

Blarg.

I'm currently working on the mockup for my captain Holly Short costume - a dull green jumpsuit - but unfortunately I'm out of stretch needles and the number of stitches I'm skipping is getting ridiculous. Should be alright though - I just need to work out how much I need to account for the stretch of the fabric - obviously I want the suit quite firm fitting, but I need to be able to move and flex and sit and such.

I'll be patterning for The RaveZombie's suit in the weekend - she's cosplaying Artemis Fowl with me - we're going to have neutrino's and LEP helmets and all such good Colfer related things. We're just waiting on some trademe auctions for slightly broken helmets to come to a close.

STILL WAITING for fabric to arrive, which means my days have been somewhat monotonous and dull. Try to keep myself occupied but I find I'm much more efficient when I'm working on projects for other people. So if you know anyone who wants a corset made, send them my way! =)

Applying for a few things too, at the moment. There's a design competition on to win a trip for two to new york during fashion week (plus you get to help Karen Walker out backstage, and get a two week internship with a fashion house....somewhere) which is super cool. I need to brush up on the current fashions though - I tend to exist in a happy bubble where anything past 1989 doesn't exist. Yes, I know that's terrible. Don't judge me.

A bridal store is also looking for someone experienced in bespoke corsetry. They're also wanting a minimum of five years experience though, so I'm going to spend the weekend working up a convincing argument of the benefits of hiring me despite the fact that I've only been sewing three years or so.

I'm dedicated to making fabulous clothes, I already have a proven portfolio in corsetry both bespoke and OTR, I'm young and enthusiastic, I have great handsewing and draping skills.

Question is how to word this in a way that sells me well, presents me in an enthusiastic, professional manner, and distinguishes me enough from anyone else applying....

And of course there's still the BBC internship, but their website STILL says "dates for this scheme will be released in may 2010". I'm pretty sure that's now, can haz dates and portfolio requirements?

Also - I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow! It's super exciting. I'll bore you with the whole drama tomorrow once I've got pictures, cause I'm not actually sure what kind of haircut I'm going to come out with yet. To google! AWAAAAAAAAAAAY.

Tomorrow - there will be pictures of the pencil skirt I made recently - I'm going to sell them at $45USD - with optional suspenders, pockets, button add-ons, etc, free of charge.

nerdom, narcissism, sales, sewing, commission, life, corset, costume, my so-called career, ranting
