Day 06 - A book that makes you sad
I couldn't decide where I wanted to take this question. In the end I settled on three different books, each upsetting in their own way. So honorable mentions also go to Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, which was incredibly unique in it's telling, and Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott . For now, I chose Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Have you seen Speak? She wrote the book it's based off of.
This book hit a little too close to home, in ways that I speak about very little, and write about even less. The powerful physical reaction to reading this was what pushed it to be my number one answer for this question.
From GoodReads: Lia and Cassie were best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies. But now Cassie is dead. Lia's mother is busy saving other people's lives. Her father is away on business. Her step-mother is clueless. And the voice inside Lia's head keeps telling her to remain in control, stay strong, lose more, weigh less. If she keeps on going this way-thin, thinner, thinnest-maybe she'll disappear altogether.
