Birthday treats or death dealing mother?

So. Kierans birthday is in a few days and he is insisting that I need to make something to take to school for the class. I thought they negated that stuff years ago because everyone's parents had a total mental freak out and thought that their kid may not be intelligent enough to deduce that if they're allergic to it and can make them sick and/or die that it may not be smart to eat it. (really when I was 10 and diagnosed as diabetic, I was actually intelligent enough to know not to eat the nice pink frosted cupcake and to sit in my corner of solitude and eat my sugar free taste like shit this is so not real chocolate candy. And even younger I remember a fellow classmate being allergic to peanut butter and knowing that he couldn't eat the peanut butter cookies some kids mom bought.) I mean even Kieran told me one of his classmates can't have sugar cause it makes her sick, leading me to believe she may be diabetic or something.

It probably varies from school system to system, but I'm just not sure. I plan on calling Monday to see if I do need to do something- since that'll be the 9th and his birthday is on the 11th; and if I do make something what should it be? I really don't want to contribute to the feeding of the classes sugar addiction, it's bad enough Kieran comes home with friggen suckers all the damn time as a reward for being a good kid in class, but neither do I want to be the lame ass mom who brings a veggie tray and expects kids to not beat the crap out of my kid for having a loser of a parent.

So any ideas?
