30 Days of Fan Fiction meme, Day 10

Distracting myself from utter boredom...

10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?

I have blocks all the time with pairings I love - most recently for Kaidan/Shepard and a few Dragon Age pairings. But I chalk that down to inexperience in that area of my own life than anything really wrong with writing.

Not sure about the second part of the question. I'm trying to think of a time I wrote a pairing I didn't like... ah yes, I did write a 1sentence challenge for femMahariel/Zevran, which I'm still pretty proud of. I guess I don't actively dislike the pairing, but it's not my favorite - Zevran isn't my favorite of the Bioware LIs - and so it was a challenge to get into my Mahariel's head. Once I got there, though, it was remarkably easy to write.

Oh yes, and mHawke/Merrill. There is an element of squick to that pairing that I don't think I'll ever get over... but I really do like this particular drabble that I came up with... a probable outcome, I think, given Merrill's obsession with all things elven.

I think, at least, for the pairings that I don't like, I have to be able to justify them in my head to make them work and only then can I write about them. If I can't see it working, I can't write about it.
