My best friend and I went shopping yesterday for Christmas. It was a lot of fun; we met two other girls for lunch and then walked around the mall for a few hours, finishing up our holiday shopping. On our way out, I stopped at Cinnabon to get one of their absolutely awesome cinnamon rolls to have for breakfast the next morning. My friend wasn't going to get one but as I walked to the cash register to pay, the attendant (a young man) asked her if she would like anything. In one of her characteristic flirty voices, she said: "You can get me a small one for free!!" And he did. Just like that the pretty girl gets a FREE cinnamon and did the guy even look at me (the less attractive female of the two)? Nope. I still had to pay my $2.59.
I'm not mad at her. She told me that she was honestly joking and didn't expect it. She said if I wanted a free one I should have asked like she did. My reply was that it wouldn't work if I had done it; I don't have the cutesy-I-am-a-pretty-girl flirty attitude that my best friend wears like another piece of clothing. I'm realistic; I know that I'm not as nice-looking as my friend. I have to work to make myself look halfway decent and she's the type that could roll out of bed and still have half the guys on campus drooling over her. I don't even want that either, it's just.... it was almost as if the guy had said, "she's pretty, give her a free one but since you're not, you still have to pay."
That hurts.
I was so depressed that I ate the entire Cinnabon on the way home.
