Rescuing the Nutcracker

Nov 14, 2008 16:37

I dove into my garbage bin today to rescue a Nutcracker (and his arms and drum which had fallen off, presumably when he hit bottom).

The Nutcracker--a nice 10 inch fellow that played music from the ballet--was a present to my roommate from her ex-boyfriend. She tried to throw him (the Nutcracker that is) out when she was purging stuff from the ex, but I convinced her at first to give it to me so I could either a) re-gift it to my niece or nephew or b) give it to a charitable place that would make sure some lucky kid got it. It's a really nice Nutcracker after all. She agreed reluctantly, and I had possession for about twenty minutes before she decided that she wanted to keep it after all. I was fine with that and gave it back. That was a few weeks ago.

I went to put a trash bag in the garbage can today and found the poor thing at the bottom. He's now in a plastic bag on my bed where I will shortly take him home so my dad can fix. And I will not let my roommate know. So there.

It's really a pity when personal feelings can't be put aside in favor of the joy this toy might give. Maybe I don't understand because I've never had a boyfriend... but still. Seems wrong to me.

random, irritations
