An
amazing post by
risti about the awkwardness of being single and hanging out with married friends.

Still wavering on whether or not to try
NaNoWriMo for the first time. Any of you taking the plunge?

I joined a small writer's critique group on Yahoo!Groups and pulled up the first chapter of a novel that was already posted in the files to give my feedback. I'm probably the youngest in the group and several already have been published so I was hesitant, sure that I was going to be blasted away by the quality of the writing and not find a single helpful thing to correct. Who knew I was going to be so wrong?
Misspellings? Everywhere.
Stilted dialogue? Currently on a rampage.
Sentences starting with "The" ten million times in each paragraph? Oh someone save me, YES.
I cringed, actually cringed when reading some of this person's attempts at using characters to describe something they'd never seen before. It was like a bad parody, except the author was sincerely trying to be serious. (I.e. "Look at that house that is beautiful and gorgeous and has a dome with a pier that goes all the way out to the ocean that has such pretty blue water and doesn't seem to be from earth at all." Not kidding).
