BSG fic: Saved by Zero (Kara, dream-Leoben)

Aug 23, 2007 19:43

I was thinking about pataka02's statement that paint!Leoben and not!Leoben could have been the same entity, and I was also mulling over how different Kara seemed with not!Leoben when she was falling into the maelstrom. This started to pop out. Then I got stuck. Boring meetings are apparently a boon to getting unstuck.

OMG wow....I'm kind of blown away by this. I'm going to read it again and comment a bit more in depth.

Heh, well, incoherence can be flattering too. *g*

This right here. This is just... yes. The fascination and the desperation. Kara and Leoben are a compelling pair, but so very not a romantic one. Or an easy one.

This is exquisite.

reposting reply due to formatting error--I can't drive html, apparently. *g*

Oh thank you thank you!

Yes. Fascinating, because they're both so intense and driven, which inevitably leads to problems, since they don't want the same things. Actually that intensity is probably why they're my two favorite characters on the show, so putting them together onscreen means I'm totally riveted.

Wow... you know I love this, the way Kara slowly goes under while Leoben or Not! Leoben holds on to her. Just compelling, and visceral. I loved it.

A long time ago I was thinking about pataka02's statement that paint!Leoben and not!Leoben could have been the same entity,

err... I said that? Heh. Short term memory loss, I guess. Plus, I talk about Kara/Leoben so much that I clearly need help.

Go me! If it helped inspire your fic, then I'm very happy.

Yay! Funny how satisying it is to fill in those gaps--I always wanted more of a transition into that desperation we saw in "Maelstrom." Sure, we'd had the quadrangle end, but we didn't see much of Kara starting to go over the edge...

err... I said that? Heh. Short term memory loss, I guess.

Heh. Yes, you said it here. And it really was inspirational, so go you indeed!

Plus, I talk about Kara/Leoben so much that I clearly need help.

You enabler! You should be ashamed. And yes, I guess I did say it. Huh. Go me, again!

I also like the idea of Head!Leoben and Cylon Leoben being actually distinct entities, because the idea of Cylon Leoben's reaction to finding out that it's not HIM that leads Kara to her destiny, just his shell, is compelling stuff... can you imagine that he's built his whole "life," his whole identity (whatever kind of identity a Cylon can have) around his mission of helping Kara realize her destiny, who she is and what she's to become... only to find that it's not him at all. Rather it's someone else using the guise of him. It's remarkably similar to the way that Cylons have evolved, using the guise of the human form to further their agenda.

And umm.... I guess you succeeded in enabling my addiction. You're so sneaky!@

Um, this is well, wow. My first read, I wasn't really squicked just compelled to read. Upon second read, it was more disturbing and so reminiscent of the Rapture sequence.

He leaned in close--this was familiar--and whispered her name. Placing his hands on her shoulders--this was new--he traced small circles on her shoulders and back.
It's kind of chilling, but um, kind of hot? Exactly as the scene was. Sometimes it's hard for me to admit to the chemistry between Leoben and Kara because it's sooooo wrong. I think being with him would kill something inside of her. I thought of this story while driving home the other day. If he finally got her, convinced her whatever, would he be satisfied? Would he be finished with Kara, destiny fulfilled?

Such a disturbing thought. What a great ficlet that makes me so thinky about them.

That's definitely a horrible possibility. I could imagine that happening, and how awful it would be. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the story.

I love the tone of this--the language is predictable and threaded, portentous. So creepy, and beautiful.
