a poll

Instead of whining about popcorn fic, it's time for a poll.
Poll the random poll of random things

Oops, somehow popcorn fic got in there anyway. But it wasn't whiny, so it's okay.

The very next movie in my Netflix queue? Inception. After I watch it, I'll post about it and Frequency, which I watched yesterday.

popcorn fic, movies, poll

I came here to reply and got totally distracted by your icon. That is THE BEST "Keep Calm" icon I have EVER SEEN. :D

I know, I was rather tired of the "Keep Calm" meme, but this one made me laugh, so... (I credited the maker on the userpic page, so you can snag it and do the same, if you wish.)

MacGuffin! Alfred Hitchcock made the term popular. Here's what wikipedia had to say:
In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist (and sometimes the antagonist) is willing to do and sacrifice almost anything to pursue, often with little or no narrative explanation as to why it is considered so desirable. A MacGuffin, therefore, functions merely as "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction".[1] In fact, the specific nature of the MacGuffin may be ambiguous, undefined, generic, left open to interpretation or otherwise completely unimportant to the plot. Common examples are money, victory, glory, survival, a source of power, a potential threat, a mysterious but highly desired item or object, or simply something that is entirely unexplained.

raincitygirl actually put MacGuffin as her answer in the poll. I'm not quite sure the term fits perfectly, since I really only need a thingy/device/whatever for part of one chapter, but I think it's close enough.

The Holy Grail is a frequently used MacGuffin in movies.
