Lalalala, Spring Break! That's why I'm commenting everywhere! And posting excessive stuff!

Just rewatched Battlestar Galactica 4.15 "No Exit." One of the best season four episodes. ( spoilers )

I am an original series BSG geek all the way! I have two or three of the novelizations that I found in a secondhand bookstore when I was a kid. They're probably worth something now, if I was willing to give them up. I bought the series on DVD (in the big silver Cylon head box) the day they came out. And I've met the original Apollo (still gorgeous!), Starbuck, and Boomer in person at conventions. *geeks out*

I actually wished they'd spent more time on the religion thing too, if only because it's so unusual to see religion mentioned in sci fi at all (we're all so cerebral here in the future!). I loved the reboot too. I'm probably one of the few people in my circle of friends who was delighted that Starbuck was going to be a woman when they first announced it. I think she won a bunch of people over once they saw her in action. But before that? Oh, the fanboys were livid. But one of the things that stood out for me from the original series was that they HAD women warriors and viper pilots (OK, it was an emergency thing because all the guys were sick, but I was 10 years old, so I didn't pay any attention to that!). I <3 Sheba and Serena.

*butts in*

I'm pretty sure Serina's death was the first time I cried over television. My wee self was absolutely GUTTED by that.

I was okay with the idea of a reboot (I could see where it could use updating, tbh), but the parts I didn't like changed weren't Starbuck, since I was more about Apollo anyway, but making Tigh white and jettisoning Athena. Athena didn't have much to do in OldSkool but I thought a sister/daughter had potential that I was sad to lose.

Butt away! *waves*

Me too. It was so tragic! *sniffles at the memories* I've loved Jane Seymour ever since that show.

but making Tigh white and jettisoning Athena

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with those changes either. But all I needed to hear was that Edward James Olmos was on board, and I was happy (LOVED HIM in Miami Vice!!!). I went in with an open mind and really enjoyed what they came up with. *shrugs* When you say you're doing a reboot, I don't expect you to hew closely to the original. I mean, I didn't mind losing the sociolator/prostitute/nurse Cassiopeia character in the slightest. Not when we traded her for a female president and some kick arse female pilots.

Yeah. I think the real meaning of "socialator" went right over my head back then. Heh.

Funny, I barely remember Athena and Serina. Cassiopeia, on the other hand... I distinctly recall her getting angry at Starbuck at some point and... getting him stuck in a launch tube? Something, anyway.

Mine too. I think I must have picked it up from reading the books years later. And yeah, the scene you're thinking of was when Starbuck went into a launch tube with Cassiopeia to do naughty things and Athena spotted them on a surveillance camera. I think she vented steam at them or something. *giggles*

Serina died very early on. I think she was in the two hour movie and died in the two hour pilot episode when they launched the show. She made such a strong impression on me though (getting shot in her Colonial Viper pilot uniform in a shootout with Cylons!) that when I finally got a chance to re-watch the show on DVD I was surprised at how small her part actually was.

And they really didn't give Athena anything to do. We saw more of the (unnamed?) Launch Control operator with the funky braids than we did Athena. She was in every episode, calmly intoning "Launch Vipers." I suspect Athena's part was small because they actress they cast had a pretty limited range.

YES! That's it! hah

Out of curiosity I clicked on a link (either netflix or hulu) to watch part of the original series... and quickly decided that it was probably best seen through the lens of distant memory. *laughs*
