The Saturday Evening Post

Quite possibly I sounded whiny in my last post about my own writing. I wasn't feeling that way. But to satisfy my teacher-y urges, I shall now give myself a compliment about my writing ("one put-up for one put-down"). I like it that my brain enjoys writing about different characters. Sure there's a lot of Leoben, but I've written lots of other BSG cast members. So yay me! (Hey, daybreak777, if there's Leoben-fic soon, it's totally your fault. Heh.)

Here's some semi-whining, though. On my campus we have thirty-minute lunches, shortened by walking to the lounge, time waiting in line for the microwave, using the restroom, etc. That small moment is incredibly helpful, though. I used to talk with other teachers in my department and it was good time to de-stress. In an attempt to balance the number of students in the cafeteria at different times, though, my lunch was moved earlier. Only one other person in my department has the same lunch, and he usually eats in his room. That's why I bring a book to read--because otherwise the "interesting" substitute teachers try to talk to me. (They're not all bad, really. Unfortunately several are just crazy.)

This Friday the other teacher came in the lounge and stayed for the whole lunch period, and we had an actual discussion! A pop culture discussion, woohoo! His favorite superhero is Spider-Man too! We both enjoyed but didn't love Spider-Man 3. He and his wife watch "Smallville." (I haven't watched since season one; oh well.) We said scintillating things about Hollywood's version of super-heroes. If I'd known he liked pop culture stuff this much I would have forced him to stay and talk to me sooner, 'cause as much as I love to read, that thirty-minute lunch is more satisfying with non-insane human interactions. I like talking to normal adults for a moment before going back to the hormonal angst of adolescents.
