Bodice Progress

Today I did a fair bit of work on the bodice for my black dress. I took lots of progress pics too. To begin I worked on the interlining that had previously been my mock-up. I serged the edges and pressed the center line for marking the boning. I drew out the lines for the channels and used a single fold bias tape, pressed open, to form the channels. I use cable ties as boning these days since it's cheaper and easier than steel (and holds up pretty dang well). So I cut the bones and labeled them for insertion later. I don't put them in until the bodice is further assembled.

I also cut and serged the outer fabric and the lining. The inner corners on the front are a pain because there's no real way to run them on my serger. So I used a zigzag stitch there to fill the gap.

Finally I got started on the stomacher. I cut the fabric and drew a grid to embroider along. The fabric I'm using is plain green cotton and I need a design worked into it for beading. I settled on a simple embroidery stitch and got started. You can see the lines I've done somewhat below. I'll finish the lines tomorrow, sort out the edges (I think I'll pipe them), and set up my attachment method. After that I'll put it with my handwork to bead and embellish to my heart's content.

Well, that's all for today. Lot's more to do tomorrow at stitch-n-bitch.
