Rare kittens

Sep 05, 2012 19:41

These are sand cat kittens, with their mom Rotem, at the Zoological Center of Tel Aviv, where they were born three weeks ago. The species is native to deserts in parts of Africa and Asia, but appears to have become extinct in the wild in Israel during the 1990s. Sand cats are becoming increasingly rare in the wild, which is mostly due to loss of their habitat. These kittens are part of a special European breeding program. Story here.
