Peter Cushing as Doctor Who.

Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. is on the cable channel TMC (Turner Movie Classics) right now (well, 10:30 PM, PST). It looks hilarious. And, a young Bernard Cribbins!

...Daleks shooting fire extinguishers is NOT canon, I believe.

(Posting also to doctorwho and brb_gallifrey.)

bernard cribbins, movies, lj comm: doctorwho, tv: doctor who, actor: peter cushing, what the hell were they thinking?, daleks, fun, squeee!, fandom, humor, science!

Damn, I missed the lava lamps. No commercials, and I was online for several minutes posting and crossposting. I'll have to check TCM for repeats. (I've simply got to see it again, anyway.)

And, United Daleks of Benetton!

I need to get the VCR working so I can tape it for my long-time Who-fan mom (who doesn't have cable or internet). And alert my sister to watch for it, if she hasn't seen it.

For all of its faults, some of the Doctor's character does come through -- the occasional technobabble, complete with "I assume you followed that and now understand it" attitude, and his general fearlessness and curiosity. He's too damn nice, though. And Susan was spunky, if not nearly strange enough. (The only One-era I've seen is An Unearthly Child, but from what I've heard, the nature of the characters is clear from the start.)

And I thought Bernard Cribbins did very well, especially considering the godawful writing. (Young Wilf, a hero already!)

Comment to the post at brb_gallifrey, in case you didn't see it:

Fun story; my friend's family owns a copy of Dr. Who and the Daleks, so I borrowed it to watch when I started getting curious about Classic Who. When I watched the proper serial with One, I pleasantly surprised by how much better the acting was (and slightly miffed that the Cushing version lifted so much of the plot).

If only it'd been MST3K'd.

I generally have a pronounced aversion to cute kids when they're in movies/tv shows, but Roberta won me over right from the start.

Still haven't quite figured out why Ian's a complete schmuck, though.
