In October of last year, a three-month old kitten with terrible chemical burns was dropped off at an animal shelter in Los Angeles. He was transferred to Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, where he received excellent veterinary care and a name: Phoenix.
Phoenix was a trooper. He was up and walking a week later, despite his bandages. He was even trying to knead.
A couple of weeks later, when the bandages came off, Phoenix was hell on paws.
The center held an essay contest for Phoenix's adoption. The essay was to be read, and the chosen forever family to be announced, at the annual HOPE Telethon in November 2012. I haven't been able to find the results, but if and when I do I'll let you know.
