Welcome Post

Hi - if you're not familiar with the way LJ lays things out and are looking for the Antonia Forest stories, this post is here to help! Click on the link for each story and you will be taken to either a list of links to the chapters in order, or straight to the story itself, depending on whether it's chaptered or not. Apart from Term Of Duty, in which Chapter Eight got memoried out of order. Sorry about that.

Non-Crossover Antonia Forest Fic

Probably the best place to start if you're new to the fic is Term Of Duty, set at Kingscote during Nicola and Lawrie's lower sixth year, and involving a Play (produced by Tim), various teams, and an upheaval in the Merrick family. Those of you who are foolish enough to read my maunderings on my personal journal will know this as either 'the Nicola-in-the-Sixth thing' or The Revenge Of Helen Bagshaw, a title I only reluctantly rejected. Netball And Cricket is a short extra scene written for white_hart.

Lawrie's Wedding was written for lyras for the Yuletide 2007 fic exchange. I generally write Lawrie as gay, but in this she's marrying Clement Selby and the consequences are about what you'd imagine.

The Next Christmas is a complete story set at Trennels a year after Run Away Home. Contains Miss Keith, Ann's POV, and a discussion of holy pop, not to mention Lawrie singing in the bath.

My Pretty is a short, complete story in which Ginty reflects on the events of The Marlows And The Traitor. I think it's probably the most plausible take I've done yet on what might happen to Patrick.

Milan, Con Amore is a short complete one-shot in which Miranda and Janice unexpectedly meet again, about thirty years after Jan left Kingscote.

Triptych is a bit more experimental than the other short pieces, so might not be the best place to start. On the other hand, it does contain some understated slash and Lawrie starring in The Archers and burbling on about tea-towels, so you might want to read it just for that. You be the judge.

Sugar is... well, it's a longish slashy one-shot about an eighteenth-century Anthony Merrick. No one from the books is mentioned by name, apart from the Joshua Marlow who made his fortune in the slave trade, and a couple of characters from the Players books who get a passing mention. PG, and a bit more raunchy than anything else I've written, though you will probably be grateful to know that neither the pineapple nor the flamingo get used for indecent purposes.

The Interior Life Of Meg Hopkins was written for glittermouse for the second trennels ficathon. It's a look at Meg Hopkins' life at home and Kingscote. Rated 12 for medical references and general darkness of theme.

Sales is a very short Miranda and Janice piece written for lyras, exploring the consequences of Janice's brother Philip the hairy monster finding himself on MTV, and Miranda, perhaps even more unexpectedly, finding herself in Marks and Spencers.

Nelson's Thread was written for lizarfau in the third annual Trennels short ficathon. It's a short piece set at Trennels and in Hampstead, in which Nicola thinks about heroes and villains. U.

Puck Shall Make Amends was written for Yuletide 2008 and is set about a year after the conclusion of the Players books: Nicholas returns home from sea, and drops into a tavern in Colebridge whilst looking for Philip Catchpole. I know several people have asked in the comments for Players fic, but I really doubt I'm going to write any more beyond this one short piece - I'm just not as interested in the historicals as I am in the modern-day Marlow books. Sorry!
Crossovers

As you may have noticed, I write a lot of crossovers. They're pretty much all 'These people were inhabiting the same world all along' crossovers rather than anything involving dimensional portals, but I know some people find the idea of any crossover at all exquisitely upsetting, so I've put them in their own section.

The Curse Of The Chalet School was written for the_antichris for the Yuletide 2007 fic exchange. It's the Christmas after Run Away Home, and Miranda is visiting Trennels and asks where the twins went to school before Kingscote. Crossover with Elinor M. Brent-Dyer's Chalet School.

Vormarlow's Honour is a crossover imagining what might have happened if the Marlows had been born in Lois McMaster Bujold's Nexus. For some reason that seemed like a good idea at the time there is sailing in this one - if anything about the voyage of the Foxwosk makes sense, please thank coughingbear and thewhiteowl, though the errors are all my own. Starring a somewhat sea-changed Peter and a pretty much exactly the same Fob, with a guest appearance from Lord Ivan Vorpatril.

Dangers Untold, Hardships Unnumbered, is a Marlows / Labyrinth crossover in which Karen loses (and finds) more than her temper, Ann cleans up, Nicola gets most of the good lines that haven't already been hoovered up by a certain limelight-hogging Goblin King and Lawrie is... well, Lawrie. Contains goblins, repeatedly. Blame darth_tigger for the original inspiration and cat_and_loki for encouraging me.

Giles Marlow's One And Only is a crossover with Elinor M. Brent-Dyer's Chalet School; in which Giles brings home a fiancée from Malta, and all manner of trouble ensues, including Lawrie getting drunk on the stairs yet again and Fob in a bridesmaid's dress. Contains an instance of Jo calling someone 'my sugarpie' and very nearly contained an instance of 'pussystruck' as well but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Lois Sanger Disposes is a one-shot crossover between the Marlowverse and Josephine Tey's mysteries which I wrote as a Christmas present for frankie_ecap.

The Marlows And The Doctor is a WIP that I probably won't ever finish, since I realised four chapters in that I just don't know enough about Dr Who canon to carry it off. I don't know what to say about this except to blame the zeitgeist and point out that at least it isn't Pomona Todd: Vampire Slayer.

Now and Then is a very short crossover with Anne Digby's Trebizon books, written for slemslempike.

A Wand With Sixteen Strings And Sequels

A Wand With Sixteen Strings takes place in something resembling 1991, and is the story of Nicola and Lawrie's first year at Hogwarts. Harry's first year at Hogwarts, meanwhile, is going on somewhere in the background, though the Trio do have walk-on roles. The plot is shamelessly stolen from Autumn Term and woven in around the events of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone though sadly there is no play. Oh, and there are centaurs.

Home From Sea is post-Hogwarts and considerably bleaker, though in essence it's a romantic comedy. With Flobberworms, fish, a brief visit to a Wizarding Wedding, and more centaurs. As for whether Harry's story is continuing in the background... well, you'll have to read to the end and find out. Home from School is a very short epilogue starring Chas and Fob.

Set in that universe, there are also Change Partners and Dance, a short complete story set around the Yule Ball in the year of the Triwizard Tournament, and The Woman On The Platform, a Deathly Hallows epilogue!fic which takes place down a different leg of the Trousers of Time to Home From Sea, for reasons that will be apparent if you read them.

A Wand With Sixteen Strings and Home From Sea were written between OOTP and HBP, and I'm not planning to edit them to make them HBP and DH-compliant.

From The Ashes is a new, post-DH sequel to A Wand With Sixteen Strings, taking place in a different possible future to Home From Sea, if you can call it a future when much of the action is set in 1811. It's not in any way a rewrite or a replacement for Home From Sea; it's its own creature. Ann / Draco. Rated 15 for a not particularly explicit sex scene and some bad language.

Charlie Weasley Is Not Amused is a drabble in set in the same universe as From The Ashes, that I wrote for girlyswot. It makes more sense if you've read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books.

Also in the universe of A Wand With Sixteen Strings, legionseagle has written Deepest Fears, which I urge you to go and read.

I apologise for the branching weirdness of the crossover Marlow / Potterverse; it's entirely my own fault for starting writing in an open canon.

Harry Potter Fic

Written is a Ginny-centric short set at St. Mungo's. 15, for self-harm references, mental illness and general darkness of theme. AU, diverging during Chamber of Secrets.

Lost Property is a post-DH Harry Potter / Labyrinth short, inspired by cat_and_loki who observed that events in DH might lead to one pissed-off goblin. And where there are goblins, there are Goblin Kings...

Labyrinth Fic

So far both the Labyrinth pieces are crossovers, but I absolutely wouldn't rule out a non-crossover piece showing up one of these days.

Dangers Untold, Hardships Unnumbered, is a Marlows / Labyrinth crossover in which an unwise choice of a School Play and a harrassed nineteen-year-old stepmother combine to lead to Saying of Right Words, talking vines, riddling ferrymen, and growing up.

Lost Property is a post-DH Harry Potter / Labyrinth short, in which Jareth meets what may well be his match in Augusta Longbottom.
Veritas: the Quest Fic

Newgrange. Written for Yuletide 2008. As the rest of the team battle Dorna and investigate the connections between Mayan pyramids and Irish passage-graves, Calvin is left babysitting Nikko.

Six Scenes From The Life Of Nicole 'Nikko' Zond. Written for Yuletide 2008. AU: what if Nikko had been a girl?
Merlin UK Fic

Camlann. Written for Yuletide 2008. Does what it says on the tin: it's the morning of the Battle of Camlann, and Merlin helps Arthur on with his armour one last time.

Reasons Why. Written for Yuletide 2008. Morgana reflects on her connection to Mordred.

Odds and Ends

Correspondence was written for the_antichris for the Yuletide 2007 fic exchange. It's set in the universe of Ellen Kushner's The Privilege Of The Sword. During and after the events of The Privilege Of The Sword, Katherine and Artemisia correspond; many years later, two other girls find the letters.

Carefully, Correctly Wrong is a crossover between the Profit TV series and C.J Cherryh's novel Cyteen, in which I continue my quest to write in fandoms that very few people have heard of. Rated PG for swearing and the casual offstage destruction of multiple baby Adrian Pasdars. How Amy Carnath Conquered The World is more of a sibling than a sequel.

Two Glasses Of Red Wine And I Love You is a Holby City / Highlander crossover written for the holbycitylounge 'Dan Clifford Is Methos' fic challenge, in which two Watchers correspond by email.

Game Night is set in mina_de_malfois' Minaverse.

The May-Born King is a look at Mordred from Arthurian legend. Written for Yuletide 2008. PG for mentions of incest and torture.

The Eggnog Equivalence was written for Yuletide 2008. Big Bang Theory. Penny and Sheldon end up more or less accidentally going on a date.

In the realms of sheer silliness, there is an unnamed and very silly Stargate / Supernatural crossover fic set in the Stargate mess, involving a meeting between two Sams; and Catford, a very short Dr Who piece written for thewhiteowl.

A Note About Commenting And Requests

I've turned on the 'allow anonymous comments' feature - if there's a spate of nastiness I'll turn it off again. Anonymous comments will be screened, not because I don't like or trust the various friends of trennels who aren't members of LJ, but because, like everyone who's been knocking around the Internet long enough, I've attracted the attentions of a few unbalanced people over the years.

I often don't get around to unscreening anonymous comments for a few days after I get them, particularly if LJ comment notification emails are being patchy, because I have to log out as me and log in as the fic to do so. Also, if you're an anonymous commenter, could you please sign yourself something? It's nice to have an idea who I'm talking to, and it can get very confusing when several anonymice are having a conversation in the comments.

If you would like to comment and are not an LJ user, please sign yourself something - it gets a bit confusing when several anonymouses are chatting in the comments. Abusive comments will be deleted without being unscreened.

I am afraid it is not much use making requests for specific things you would like to see in the fic, or for possible future projects; I write fanfic for fun, and I write what I feel like writing. If you have AF plotbunnies, I suggest you write them yourself - the fandom needs more good writers!

Thanks, Ankaret
