party like it's 1899

Note to self:
You know you've been reading too much about Victorian gay men when you misread "Iranian" as "Uranian" in a recent newspaper headline.

In other news about current events in the 19th century, I'm thinking of claiming a queer_fest prompt for War and Peace, centering on the relationship between Dolokhov and Anatole. Leaving aside the fact that I ( Read more... )

i am easily amused, fic, tolstoy

(Late-night ramblings about the 19th century are my equivalent of drunktexting.)

Join the club. :) Also, I would read that fic, although I do need to reread W&P first, since the last time I read it was my first year of undergrad.

I am honored to be in the Midnight (Scholarly) Ramblers club with you!

And, if I do commit W&P fic, I hope it will make sense even to those who haven't read the novel or whose memory is fuzzy. No need to reread... though I strongly encourage all rereading of 19th-c fiction for any reason whatever!

(Sorry about the slow reply here, and thanks for your comment!)

For what it's worth, I've been meaning to reread it for ages. I am a ridiculous Natasha/Andrei fangirl (yes, I know, I am totally predictable) and I remember really enjoying it the first time I read it. Possibly over the summer when I have actual time.

(And, fair enough, I am rereading The Three Musketeers on the metro, but metro reading totally doesn't count.)

I know! The Vogons will throw me out of the airlock whether or not I write this. So I might as well give in.

(Thanks for the encouragement, and sorry about belated reply!)

I would read that fic. What? Okay, so I still haven't actually finished War and Peace but I would still read that fic!

Yay! That's the right spirit! If I do commit W&P fic, I just hope I won't spoil you. (Spoiler: Napoleon loses the war.)

(Thanks for the encouragement, and sorry about the slow reply here. Also, be warned that I may possibly write this fic and ask you to beta... no obligation, of course.)

Oh my gosh! Really! You have spoiled the novel for me! (I kid, I kid.)

(You are more than welcome, and sorry about the slow reply. LJ being down just compounded my usual uselessness about comments. And of course I will beta.)

I picked a HP queer_fest prompt. Which is both going to be fun, and also horrendously predictable.

Thanks for the encouragement, M.! I'll probably sign up for this fest in any case. It goes until June (so I could possibly take a fic-writing break after the semester), and it's also okay if I drop out, since there's no gift exchange. *wry smile*

K and I were shopping yesterday and she said to me "I found a packed of Iranian seeds, but it doesn't say what kind".

Naturally, I heard "Uranian"

Yay! I'm glad someone else is on my wavelength.

Now I am just trying not to imagine what "Uranian seeds" could be like. I'm getting really scary images of bad Victorian nature poetry, as well as the obvious "let's not go there" sexual implications.

It had me thinking of Spenser and where he could use that phrase in The Faerie Queene - probably in one of the endless "bower" scenes.
