Grimlock sank past his ankles in the sand. He paid no heed to the fact his feet were buried with every step, intent only on walking.
The Transformer shifted from side to side as he pushed his way onwards, one eye always focused on the prize - the finish line almost eight hundred six kilometers in front of him. He didn’t care that he was alone, under the scorching sun, that he left a path that was easy to follow.
No, Grimlock had a goal, and that goal was to reach the finish line before any of the others. The other Autobots had chosen to drive around this huge track of sand, but Grimlock thought that going straight through was the plan.
The midday heat, instead of leaching strength from him, like it did the fragile organics, enabled Grimlock to continue plowing his way through the sand dunes, even as he sank past in knees in the uncompacted, wind-tossed rock particles.
Grimlock grinned, revealing huge teeth of a long-extinct predator, as he climbed his way over the last sandy-hill. The end was in sight, and the other Autobots, most in car-form, racing down the asphalt roads as they navigated their way around this dry, hot, almost lifeless wilderness, were nowhere to be found.
Grimlock never slowed as he put one foot in front of the other, keeping the same measured pace, the same tempo that allowed him to walk through one of the most ‘inhospitable’ tracks of land.
“And Grimlock is the winner!” Teleetran 1 announced, as the yellow ribbon stretched, tugged from its position across the roadway. Teleetran’s announcement was a formality, as everyone not actually participating in the race had kept an eye (or optic) on the various mechs participating.
