Karen Kingsbury does it again in FAME: Sometimes living a dream costs everything...
Many of us can only dream of what it would be like to make it big - to be the superstar that many people wish they had the talent for.
Some people actually live that life - and they may find being instantly recognized anywhere and everywhere they go isn't worth the big money.
But what can they do? Let their gifts lay dormant and unused, just so they'll have a moment's peace? Say goodbye to all thoughts and desire for a 'normal' life, where a fan is simply someone who wants recognition, but may never achieve it?
Karen Kingsbury spins a masterful tale exploring the innermost thoughts behind one Dayne Matthews, a A-line actor who is seeking recognition - not human recognition (he has that in spades, with the crowds always finding him), but spiritual recognition, a family connection. Dayne Matthews appears to have it all together, and except for the fact that the world knows he's an orphan (since the young age of 17, when both parents died in a plane-crash), he suffers from no lack of female companionship.
On the other edge of the spectrum is Katy Hart, a young single woman, director of the Christian Kids Theater in Bloomington Indiana. No man in her life (and not searching for any prospective boyfriends either), she also appears to have it all together. Or maybe it simply looks that way because of the way Katy stays busy from sun-up to sun-down fall, spring, summer, and winter, putting on plays and encouraging young people to get on stage.
Conflicts begin to arrise when mothers wishing for the best for their children take it for granted their daughter (or son) has the gift and ability to make it big, before the audition has even started! These well-intended parents can't ever conceive of the possibility someone else has better talent than their precious one. But not all mothers insist on the best part, and let the director cast the actors and actresses as natural ability and trained talent fit.
For a while, it seems nothing will change in either Dayne Matthews life, or Katy Hart's life - until a chance meeting brings them together.
Can (and will) Katy adapt to Dayne's lifestyle, or will he let her go back into obscurity, after finding a woman who has captured his heart?
