Week 5
SIN
This weeks focus is sin. How sin has distorted and destroyed God's plan. How He is saddened and heart sick over our sin. People hate the word sin in general. They assume you are accusing them of failure. The truth is ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We can't do the right thing. We are unable to be righteous and holy apart from God. Only He can be holy and righteous, and only God working through us with His spirit can give us any righteousness at all. I don't know why people have so much trouble believing in sin nowadays. I know me, I know my heart, I know how prideful, selfish, and hateful I can be. I may not say it outloud, but I definitely know my heart has evil tendencies. If we are honest with ourselves we have to admit that. God's requirement for heaven is perfection. Not good enough, PERFECTION. I don't know about you, but I can't manage that for 10 minutes, a lifetime, forget it. God knew we couldn't do it. Jesus did it for us, He lived a perfect life and then died in our place to pay the penalty of the law. The wages of sin is death. That is the law, it must be paid. God paid it Himself. That sacrifice made us righteous in the eyes of the law. The sentence was given and satisfied with His death. My sin and His love for me held him on the cross.
When people say a loving God wouldn't send people to hell, I counter with a couple of ideas. First, they choose to go. When you spend your whole life ignoring God and choosing to stay away from Him, why are you surprised when He doesn't make you spend eternity with Him? Secondly, If I created someone, gave them every good and perfect gift, food, amazing earth, all life holds, and when they messed up I personally laid down the life of the most beloved person in my life to save them and then they refused to have anything to do with me, not only that but spit on me and made fun of my name, I would send them as far from me as possible and no hell would be bad enough for them.
You see God is everything good in this universe, love, peace, joy, beauty, kindness, compassion, light: everything good. Hell is by definition a total lack of God. Which means, hate, darkness, evil, pain, suffering, ugliness, sadness.......etc....of course it's hell, God isn't there.
God thank You for freeing me from sin and death. Thank You for freedom and every good and perfect gift You have given. May I glorify You always with my life.
