Synopsis: Modern day witch Abby falls victim to a spell by one of the direct descendants of the Salem Witch trials, sending her back in time just as the witch hunts begins. Abby must survive long enough to figure out a spell to get back or suffer the consequences if her secret is revealed.
Abigail 'Abby' MacKenize is a high school history teacher at a Boston public school, who also moonlights as a re-enactor at the Salem Village on weekends. She's also a practicing Wicca. While she only participates in White Magic, someone close to her begins practicing Black Magic which ends up sending her back in time. With only her vast historical knowledge of both the area and time, Abby must navigate through the mass hysteria without changing the events of history all the while working in secret to find a spell to send her back home. If that wasn't trouble enough, while stuck in in the late 1600s, she finds a man who makes her melt inside.
Matthew Hawthorne is a widower and merchant. He's also a vastly devout Puritan. Returning home to his home in Salem Village on horseback, he finds Abby unconscious in the woods. Matthew takes her home for care, only to be shocked beyond belief at the similarities of the strange woman and his recently dead wife. Unsure of himself around Abby, he seeks guidance from the town's minister Reverend Samuel Parris. Still, he finds himself being drawn to her unlike the other women in town.
Samuel Parris is Salem Village's minister and plantation owner. A vain and arrogant man, Parris used his position as the town's minister to grow in power and money, despite disputes over his pay. Closely following the arrival of Abby, his daughter and niece began having fits and eventually they began making accusations of witchcraft. Parris saw the witch hunts as the best way to further his need for power and notoriety.
Sarah Good, a homeless woman and one of the first to be accused of witchcraft, quickly tries to befriend Abby upon her arrival. Often covered in dirt and grim, she wonders the village begging for work, food or money to care for her husband and young daughter. However, her temper and perceived detachment left her as an outsider, who finds a kindred spirit in Abby who was also seen as an outsider because of her bizarre arrival and pattern of speech.
