so let us see. my birthday went well, i stayed in bed until noon, then went to see The Polar Express with my mummy and sister. i enjoyed it. made me feel like Christmas is magic, which i haven't felt for some time. i think in life, for christians, christmas is so exciting as a kid, so magical, and around your teenage years it loses some of the fantasy, it becomes just another vacation, a time when you have to spend ridiculous amounts of money, and oh god, not another family thing! i wonder if, when/if i have a family, christmas will become special again? in a sad way i only look forward to it because i love giving people presents and i love receiving presents. well, i guess that isn't that sad. but i wonder if it will ever be as special as it was when i was a child. anyways, after the movie we met my dad and my aunt and uncle downtown at one of our favourite restaurants for cocktails and dinner, then my family went to see The Phantom of the Opera. the film. it was TOO LONG. as in, 3 hrs of film, which was exactly like the stage musical. yes, the music was beautiful, but it was overshadowed by the ridiculous length of the film. anyways, when we got home it was time for wine, cake (oh my god, heaven), and presents. no surprises there, got the ball gown, the lord of the rings extended trilogy on dvd, perfume, some nice jewelry. it was simple. the next day kelsey and i actually went shopping. we spent so much money. not sure how. but yea, it was fun, and we got everyone what they wanted and then some little surprises. i like hanging out with my sister, because she is more grown-up, and i can be more immature when i am with her. we went downtown and it was just beautiful. freezing cold, grey and getting dark, but beautiful. on christmas eve i slept all morning, then wrapped presents. the next morning kelsey woke me up at 7:30 (i would have thought she was getting too old for that...but no.), and we opened our stockings and moved right into the presents. my dad got puzzles made for each of us, with a photo of an event (for my sister), the family (for me), and hiking in the alps (for my mum.) hehehe i was awful, i started to do mine, which made my sister furious, because we couldn't continue until i had finished. i purposely took a long time. i love being the older sister... anyways, i got a bunch of nice stuff, mostly gift certificates, money for books and stuff in london, some "sexy red sheets," bu the coolest present was a dock for my ipod. not just a dock though, it is an amazing speaker system too. and it is portable, about 1/2 the size of my laptop, and i can also hook it up to my laptop and play from there. it is awesome. and has amazing sound. that was by far the coolest present i got, as well as a surprise. and i don't usually get surprises. maybe one a year. anyways, then my aunt and uncle came over and we had a huge delicious traditional meal, of which i ate too much of, then kelsey and i watched the oc (which we had received from our grandmother), and which is awful and addictive. on boxing day, the 26th, we went to my aunt and uncle's for another huge meal, and my cousin and his girlfriend were there, and were acting like teenagers in love. it was so cute and cheesy, they are in their early 30's, live together, have been together for about 18 months, and they were still ridiculous. made me lonely. but whatever... i drove. all the way across vienna in the rain. ugh everything here is so small, i'm more afraid of hitting a parked car than a moving one. and all these so-called two-way streets?! really one-way streets. they lie. anyways... monday i went shopping to use up some of the gift certificates, and yesterday my mum and i went to ikea (pronounced the correct way: ee-kay-ah!), where we designed my future studio apartment, although bought almost nothing. ah well. today, um, well, i have done nothing, not even change out of my pj's, while my mum has cleaned the house from top to bottom. oops. *big grin*
i cannot believe i go to london in a week, and classes start in a week and a half. i have SO much reading to do before then, but all they require is not available here. oh well. i'll get i done...i'm starting to get nervous, kinda scared, and i don't like it. there is a part of me, which, for the first time, does not want to go abroad. and to london. in a way i'd rather just go back to claremont and be where i am comfortable. damn boys. grrrrrrrrrrr. but it's not just him, it's everyone. as i said before, i am "home"sick for school for the first time. oh well, can't back out now. and i am sure once i get there and meet everyone and get into the rhythms it'll all be fine. it's just coz i am sitting around doing puzzles and watching sex and the city season 6 (man i'm going to miss that show, although somehow, its "fairytale endings" annoyed me, since that show was in NO WAY a fairytale), and reading shakespeare and pinker that my mind has time to wander...
wow, i write such long entries. my apologies. and maybe i'll update more often. have a marvelous new year everyone!
