Rest in Peace, Corky
I suppose an explanation is in order.
The reason I haven't updated in over a week is because last Monday morning, our pet chinchilla, Corky, suddenly got very sick and died, and I haven't really felt like getting back on track until now.
The living room is so quiet without him jumping around in his cage and running on his wheel. I still expect to see him sitting up in his favorite corner, begging for a treat, and when he's not there it just feels..strange.
And anyone who says animals don't grieve has no idea what they are talking about. Jack, my cat, is the one who let me know that something was wrong with Corky, crying outside my door and leading me to the cage. And, for several days after Corky died, Jack was moping around the house and looking into the cage, trying to find where Corky went. And Jack doesn't mope, so I know Corky being gone was making him feel upset.
Goodbye, Corkster. May you always run on the big chinchilla wheel in the sky. I hope you make friends with all of our pets who already up there waiting.
My normal journal entries will resume tomorrow; rather than post all the meme days I missed, I'm going to pick up on the day I left off and go from there.
