So, Christmas went remarkably well. The dog was (mostly) well behaved. She did have a couple of accidents but we put that down to a combination of her not knowing where to go in our house and being overly excited.
Christmas Day itself was FUN! We played lots of silly games and ate and just enjoyed the day. Boxing Day was OK, too. The husband did a great job of not letting my mother and step-father get to him - I think some of my zen is rubbing off at last!
I did get Witcher 3, plus two scarves and lots of lovely Lush goodies. So, a very successful few days all round.
After morning prayer yesterday, I ventured into town and bought a new desk calendar for work, an adult colouring book and some pens, and a Pointless quiz book. Haven't moved very far today and tomorrow will be more of the same. I do need to prep my talk/homily/sermon/whatever for Sunday, though.
A (hopefully) spoiler-free tip for FFXV players - when you get to Chapter 14, call Umbra BEFORE leaving Hammerhead. Unless you've already done everything you want to do AND have shed loads of cash for the fancy weapons. OK - we are now leaving the spoiler-free zone...
***SPOILER ALERT***
So, I got through Chapter 13 and made it to the 'final battle' - only you don't have to go straight to the final battle. I'm taking advantage of this fact to do some level grinding and to make some cash from hunts. This is all under the heading of Chapter 14, which suggests that either Chapter 15 features the REAL final battle, or it's post-battle stuff. I think I'd prefer the latter.
However, I'm not levelling up as quickly as I would like, and I'm running out of hunts, so I suspect that the final boss is actually going to be a challenge for a change.
I have 10 out of the 13 royal weapons and 5 of the 6 summons (though I still have NO FUCKING IDEA how you summon them). I've given up trying to find headlights for the Regalia in the sewers. I've been all over them three times and I can't find the side-passage or secret door or whatever it is I'm missing. So, that's one for a walk-through.
Ardyn has proved more interesting than Noct, just as Seifer was more interesting than Squall. And with the added advantage of having his own agenda, rather than being someone else's lapdog. Ravus was the dupe in this game, I think. Aranaea is lots of fun and has just popped up to help with the despatching of an Iron Giant - so kind of her.
Lots of things about FFXV remind me of other games - mostly FF but with some Dragon Age thrown in for good measure. The story has elements of FF9 and FF12 (without the strong female leads - grinds teeth in frustration), the 'element deposits' remind me of FF8 draw points, but the demons over-running the world feels like DA. Oh! and there's a ring and everlasting darkness, which is very LOTR. Overall, I get the feeling it was all rather thrown together, hence the need for updates and DLC. It's a hodge-podge of nice things held loosely together by a minimalist plot.
I love the graphics, I love the relationships between the boys, I love listening to old-school FF music when I'm driving around in the Regalia, I'm even enjoying the battles. I just wish there was more substance to the whole thing.
OK, enough ranting - I need to sleep. Night, LJ!
