Sunday, I resurrected the 'freecycle' table at church and actually got rid of some stuff! Yay!
Monday, I came home and found that the boiler was leaking, so I rang the landlord on Tuesday and someone came out on Wednesday and said we need a new boiler, which could take up to three days. We hoped that by some miracle they would come out today but no. So, it'll be Monday. Hopefully. A week without hot water is not fun *pouty Rosa*
Had a date with the Vice Chancellor on Monday. He does these little get-togethers for staff every now and then. There was a nice mix of people this time, so it was a nice chance to catch up with some people that I haven't seen in ages. I also got chatting to someone from Astrophysics and learned about the new even-bigger-and-better-than-the-last-one telescope they're building.
Tuesday I had a chat with G about becoming a Local Missional Leader. It's a new role that the church has come up with that gives volunteer staff a label. It's a chance to give me a badge without me having to go through the pain of formal training at the expense of family time because they've never thought about providing child care. *eye-rolling Rosa*
Anyway, when I was looking through the paperwork on Sunday, I came to a question on 'opportunities and challenges' and I immediately thought of the neighbours. We really don't have a relationship with them. Most of the congregation travel in on a Sunday and through the week our users offer services that are mostly accessed by refugees and asylum seekers, not locals. There is one chap in particular who is always bending the husband's ear about how it isn't a 'local church it's just for foreigners'. And I can understand where that line of thinking comes from. So, I'm going to be the 'Neighbourhood Network Officer' or something like that.
I've got a form to fill in and so has G and then we're meeting up again in a couple of weeks to go over what we have. I've also asked D to be my second referee. I should be absolutely terrified about the thought of meeting lots of strangers, but I'm not. I'm actually quite excited. I think that's probably a good thing...
Wednesday was quiet, other than getting the news about the boiler.
Thursday, I met up with Janet again after who knows how many years. She's just the same as always, just older and less able to do things. Can't believe she's 80 and it's 20 years since she left St Bride's!
Also had a nice meeting with W, which was part work part personal, as always. We got onto the subject of fantasy figures. There's a colleague that I've always had a soft spot but who is gay. W mentioned that I was gutted when I found that out but I wasn't really. Thinking someone is attractive and wanting to go to bed with them are different things. And we've always got along really well, even without the going to bed thing ever being a possibility - which it isn't as long as I'm married and we're colleagues, anyway!
Anyway, fantasy figures. I also have a 'thing' for Zachery Quinto who, obviously, would never be interested in my. J produced this as a kind of trump card but I explained that that's not what fantasy figures are for. They are there to be drooled over, not to be real people. Of course, there has to be some reality - Orlando Bloom, for example, is just TOO pretty; I appreciate him the way you'd appreciate a painting or a statue, for its aesthetic value! And then, things can get TOO real, like Billie Joe Armstrong going into rehab - I have no problem with him being a bit of a bad boy (that's part of the attraction!) but I don't want him to have actual human failings! And then, there are the ones who let you down, like Johnny Depp doing aftershave adverts. So, actually, Quinto is my best bet for a fantasy man, since he hasn't screwed up and he could only EVER be a fantasy even if we somehow managed to meet in real life! *chuckling Rosa*
Friday, I reread my two forays into erotica -
At the End of the Day and
Anticipation. Anticipation is better written but both do a good job of walking the fine line between crudity and idiocy. Both also did pretty well for reviews, which was nice to remember.
I also got a birthday present for G (who is 50 on Tuesday) and an anniversary present for Mum and Stepdad (married 29 years next Sunday).
I did a bit of work on Mannerley this week (it's feeling like fun again, which has to be a good thing!) but didn't play any FFX-2.
So the week went quickly but it was definitely packed with incident. Bye for now, LJ.
