Happiness is...
- listening to fab music on Spotify
- doing my bit for the University by helping with Graduation
- having next week off work (well, Tuesday is a work day but not in the office)

I'm sooo into Green Day's latest album '21st Century Breakdown', especially 'Last night on Earth' - just beautiful. I also enjoyed some Monkees goodness, today.

Our graduation ceremonies involve the management of around 5,000 students plus their friends and families (each student gets 2 tickets for guests, so you can see how things add up) spread over 10 ceremonies over 5 days. This week, I've been on the reception desk, handing out the seating tickets, telling the students when they need to be in their seats and so on. The added bonus this year has been the fact that students have had to get their gowns from a building at the opposite end of Hope St from the Anglican Cathedral (which is where we have the ceremonies), but I don't think anyone has warned them that they need to take account of the 15 minute walk between the two *sigh* The result has been students turning up after the start of the ceremonies! Not many, but some. I shall be offering Wayne (who now heads the bit of our team that is in charge of Graduation) some feedback next time I see him.

Next Tuesday, I have a day conference for UPK (one half of my new job), which disrupts my week off, somewhat. I'm hoping to make Monday a nice lazy day and to watch LOTR over the other three days.

Which brings me, rather neatly, to Peter Jackson's 'King Kong', which I watched last night. Now, regular readers will be aware of my love of PJ's LOTR. I have no problem with remakes or CGI per se. On the positive side, the acting was good, the settings were pretty, there were some fun moments and the story was faithful to the original. However, some scenes (particularly fight and chase scenes) just went on and on... and on... Kong deserves some attention all to himself. Each hair moved individually, his eyes held real personality and he moved just like a gorilla. However, some of his actions and expressions were more chimp-like than gorilla-like and when he actually laughed, I cringed. There is a certain charm to the original version, eg, knowing that the ripples in his fur are caused by the fingers of the person moving the model. So, I won't be rushing back to watch it again.

Well, that's all for now. Toodles, LJ.

hols, graduation, lotr, work, king kong
