I don't think I've ever gone so long without posting in here before. *pats LJ* Don't worry - I didn't forget you.
So, after spending an average of 2 hours per night during November writing, I decided to take a laptop-break last weekend. Then, during the week I was watching my new Alien boxset (of which more in a mo), and somehow I just didn't get round to the internet during the week.
I completed my nano challenge, btw :D But the book is far from finished. You can read it on my MySpace account
http://www.myspace.com/athena71. I'm now working on ideas for improving it. It has some of my best ever characters, I think - definitely some that deserve more exploration. I would love some feedback on how it looks so far, though. Pwetty pwease?
Anyway, I'm back today.
The 'Alien Quadrilogy' 9 disc boxset was my Christmas pressie off Mum and Stepdad. I've watched the theatrical releases of all 4 films, now. 'Alien' is still my favourite, and still one of the scariest films ever made, imho. The alien grabbing for Ripley in the escape pod still makes me jump every time :D 'Alien3' is my second favourite, not least because of the amount of British acting talent it contains. It gets back to the haunted house feel of the first film. 'Aliens' is good, but I'm not so into action films. I love Vasquez, though! And her and Gorman's death is a great moment.
And so we come to 'Resurrection. I've only seen it once before, and couldn't remember much about it, except that I agreed with my own assessment when I heard that it had been made and the concept behind it - 'That just sounds silly'. Well, I'm still far from convinced that there is a real point to it. It's not a terrible film, but it's not wonderful, either. And it does have some very silly moments.
I've decided I do want a DS Lite - but I'm going to have to save up for it.
And I've almost decided that I want Dirge of Cerberus, despite objections from
Mr_Show In FF7 news, I'm nearly at the end of Disc 2, but I'm not tackling Sephiroth until I've done some serious levelling up. Yuffie, Cid and Red XIII have their Level 4 Limit Breaks, and I'm going to pick up Barrett & Vincent's. I may try for Cloud's, but I'm not too worried about getting absolutely everything on this playthrough - I just want to beat Sephy! I've got quite a lot of Mastered Materia, and I've finally worked out how the Limit Break system works. I refuse to breed Chocobos - unless I one day decide to torture myself with a 'perfect' game.
I was thinking about why I prefer FF8 to FF7, and I really don't know the answer! I mean, FF7 has an ecological theme, and FF8 is about a school for mercenaries - I should like 7 better, shouldn't I? And 7's hero is a troubled person, rather than a wannabe mean and moody teenager. And 7's sidequests seem to actually relate to the story, and the story is much easier to follow in the first place. Despite all this, however, 8 is still my favourite *shrug*
Finally, I've just found out that Prince Caspian comes out on 16 May, just after my birthday - so that's my present-to-myself for next year :D
Well, that's enough catching up for now. Toodles, LJ!
