The rehearsal stopped with a curse made by Sho, which was pretty rare. But working seriously was indeed difficult when Aiba did whatever he wanted. No matter how many times they re-explained the choreography to him, he would continue to move in his own way with a dead-like face.
At that moment too, while Sho was glaring at him through the mirror, Aiba stayed silent while looking down at the floor. Sakurai whirled and found himself face to face with his colleague.
-Would you mind paying attention for an hour - an hour! to what we are doing and not think about your own fucking problems??-
The other three members looked at him in surprise, astonished by such an aggressive outburst, which was unlike Sho who was always so reasonable and quiet. They were even more surprised when Aiba lifted his face with a neutral expression, as a life-size idol’s photo, while Sakurai’s hands clasped to form fists as if resisting to plant them in the other’s face.
-What is it? Do you have drug problems, are you on strike, did your dog die, or are you just screwed up?-
-... fuck off.-
Oi, oi! Time to act!, Ohno thought with an internal sigh, or “The Lecture of the Century” will become “The Fight that Divided Arashi”. Or simply the fight that will send those two idiots to the hospital. He quickly rummaged in his pocket and went to Aiba, taking his hand in his own and putting some coins into it.
-Aiba-chan, today the newest volume of my favorite fishing magazine will be released. Can you go and buy it for me? There’ll be a special about king oysters, I’m looking forward to reading it.-He asked with his usual innocent look, that only him could still have at that age. Very much like Bambi. The other nodded without a word and went out slamming the door.
Immediately the tension went down, and Sho, after kicking into the air, sat down with his back leaning against the mirror of the rehearsal room. Today’s result: a furious rapper, an idiot on the verge of an emotional crisis, two neutral, at least for now, members, and a very relieved leader. At least he had prevented Aiba-chan’s premature death.
With a smile Ohno approached the curled up figure sitting under a dark cloud with the words ‘bad mood’ written on it.
-You know, Sho-kun, this is a stressful period for everyone, including him. We’re very busy with work and you know that he’s doing his best for his drama. Give him a break...-
-Come on, Ohno-kun! How long has he been in this state? We’re all submersed by work and he screws everything up! The fishes you catch would dance better than him!-
-But... they’re dead...- Ohno objected confused.-
-Exactly. Even like that they could still do a better job than him.-
He said with a grim look, ending the conversation there.
Not that Ohno had never noticed. It had already been two weeks since Aiba changed from his usual cheerful self, and every time someone would ask him if he was okay, he settled everything with a ‘It’s ok’ and a clearly fake smile. Ohno was starting to worry, and not only professionally but also as a friend. For God’s sake, more than ten years together weren’t nothing.
He tried to think about what could have caused such a change in Aiba. The more he thought about it, the more his thoughts became dark and similar to Sakurai’s. Maybe Aiba had health problems again? Arelative that had passed away? Alcohol? Drugs? Yakuza? Sudden insanity? Satanism? Apocalyp...
-Dumped…
-Eh?-
-He’s been dumped- Nino repeated without looking up from his DS -Aiba has the typical behavior of those who have suffered the biggest sentimental disappointment in their life.
-Not to mention that, until few days ago, he walked around with heart shaped eyes- Jun added.
-How can you be so sure?-
Asked Ohno suspicious.
-We observe, Riida. We observe- answered Nino candidly -but we didn’t observe so well, because we don’t know WHO is the cause of all this. Any idea?-
Ohno shook his head. They were friends, yet their love life wasn’t something they shared easily. They were already grown up and they had abandoned the ‘fuck every female creature under thirty who crosses your path’ policy. The only one they knew about was Sho, who for months had been in a tug war with the unknown Haruka-something-something. He didn’t know much about the others , Aiba included.
Speaking of the devil, at that moment Aiba came back into the room with red and teary eyes and the look of someone who has just buried his best friend. He bowed and muttered with an hoarse voice:
-I’m sorry... we can start again.-
