My mother just recently gave David a set of blocks that have letters and numbers and pictures on them; last night David started telling us what the letters were.  He knows numbers from 0-10, and my mother was astonished that he also knows most of the letters.  We're not really sure where he picked them up, since Michael says the two of them only

Great about the bike! Having one that "fits" really makes a big difference, says the girl who still rides the bike she bought at age 11.... If I had money I'd buy a new Bianchi.

Yea for David! My favorite toy at his age, I am told, was a set of cut-out wooden letters my dad made with his jigsaw.

Also, a good bike basket is essential, especially the kind that detaches, with handles. I can do my shopping with mine and just stick it directly back on the bike. Easy!

Neat thing about sproingy forks, they're not very rack friendly (not that bike shops stock front racks anyway), and the Wald handlebar baskets look like a grooved head tube waiting to happen. However, Rivendell sells a wide platform rack that looks very attractive and easyish to install ... thinking we need two or three of those if we can pony up the $100/each asking price. Their Baggins brand of bags has big, wide, tapered shopping bags that look excellent and fit perfectly into the baskets they sell.

I saw a wonderful old Peugot mixte on Fleabay yesterday, complete with generator lights and metal fenders, but a certain someone has become instantly too addicted to her sproings and shiny blue paint and to her newfangled trigger-clicky shifters .... :D

Yeah, a while ago someone said something about new women's bikes having a better fit; I read some articles and decided I needed a women's specific design bike; rode a bunch of bikes and ended up liking a men's bike best. Oh, well!

Home-made toys are great. David has a wooden car that Michael's grandfather made. Somehow it doesn't surprise me that you played with letters as a child!
