CAT: Day Two

[I'd like to keep this spoiler-free. superplin - I expect to see some input from you! :)]

Second day of the Connor Appreciation...Time. Some really lovely discussion yesterday about How To Build A Post-Home Connor. Thank you to all those who participated.

Today's task is a bit...hmmm...I don't know how well this is going to work, but one of the things that I love about Connor is how he's such a personification of so many of the Big Ideas that AtS has delved into over the years, and continues to assess throughout Season 5. He's so much a reflection of the themes that AtS addresses over and over again - belonging, nature vs. nurture, the etiology of Evil and Good, the duality of Evil and Good, the price of atonement, the importance of family. On and on.

So the question is: Which of AtS's main themes does Connor best represent for you?

For my answer to this one, I'm going to stay within the boundaries (as porous as they are) of Season 5. We've seen the continuing themes of layers and holes in the world and on a more personnel level, the multiple wounds that Angel's taken to the chest, to the heart. All representative of the way that Connor's missing from Angel's life. Illyria as a shell of Fred, each member of the team as shells of their former selves. Angel (believes himself to be) is a shell of a human being who, when you cut him open and look inside, is empty.

And then, or, even better, before Season 5 even hit the air, we have this:
[From Deep Down]
CONNOR: Go ahead. Hurt me some more, Fred.
FRED: Shut up!
CONNOR: You think I care? You get used to it.
FRED: You don't feel anything, do you? There's nothing inside.
CONNOR: Why don't you open me up and find out.

The holes in Connor's life, the things that are missing, the shell that he feels himself to be. That's the one that resonates the most for me.

Your turn.
