Concentration

I have a vested interest in being able to measure some things about myself objectively. Right now I have a few lame ways of doing the things on this list, but I thought I would throw this out there to my livejournal to see if anyone knew of anything on the web or any sort of computer program that would do it in a quicker, more automated fashion for ( Read more... )

One of the worst offenders is starting to play in the first place. Now that I have some pressure to play, I am in your spot that you have with the Monday tournaments kind of, where I sort of have to play, or at least I feel like I have to, but I don't really feel like playing 100%. So I force myself to play anyway, and then I play poorly. But since I started off in a bad state I am not in the right state of mind to make good decisions about quitting and what not; it is kind of like starting off on the wrong foot, you know what I mean ( ... )

Yeah - this is definetly part of it. Brian quit the monday tournaments because he simply didn't feel like playing after a day of work and stress. He wasn't 100% and didn't want to play in that state ( ... )

If i wasted a few extra minutes on move one for a better overall game, it was worth the time. I've made blunders in the opening because my mind is full of the day's crap, so it's worth it to me ( ... )

I think it is for the same reason why it is good to not post behind the button when you first play and instead wait to post the blinds. You usually fold both the blinds, which is good because you get to get two folds under your belt before you start actually playing. You get to get settled in and get all set and focused. If you play your beginning moves slowly you get to get settled in in the same way.

Just a personal thing - i won't be serious about it, or i'm chatting with my friend, or it's too noisy in the playing hall, etc. That in itself is something to work on (stop chatting, put on ear protection, and so on) but for now I can get more results out of taking a few minutes then not taking them.

I agree completely. For instance I have to start playing again because I have to pay the bills, but I definitely do not feel 100%. But when can I start playing again? Do I ever feel 100% after going to work? Am I ever 100% when something else is going on, really? 100% is sort of a misnomer, I guess. There is probably more like a letter grade system, not really a percent system ( ... )
