I remember reading Fear and Loathing when I was a kid and losing my head. Because I liked the Beats but they didn't sing, not like I was told they would, but here was a guy that said something I understood in a language I didn't need any literary criticism to interpret. The general feeling with everyone that I've talked to about Thompson is that we're all saddened, but no one is really shocked. It's a fucking major loss, unsurprising or not, but that's as obvious as... I don't know. Something really obvious.

Anyway, yes, agreed. Sad but not surprising, and I think probably when the full story emerges we'll find out he was on his way anyway and just decided to hasten the process rather than drag his feet. Everything was on his terms anyway.
