[Background]

Wikipedia and the TARDIS index file.

[Personality]

Rory has seen a wide development arc since his introduction in the first episode of season five as Amy Pond's bumbling "sort of" boyfriend. In that first episode, The Eleventh Hour, he is incredibly unsure of himself and surprised by the Doctor's sudden physical presence in his life. For him, the Doctor had always been an odd aspect of Amy, another quirky thing that he's grown to love about her. When he's faced with the proof that the Doctor is real, he is surprised and also jealous that another man has had such an impact of the life of the woman he loves.

For Rory, that jealousy doesn't come to the surface in a violent way, but in a protective one. his ultimate goal is to keep everyone around him, especially Amy, safe. initially, his reaction to the Doctor is of someone that threatens that safety. In Vampires of Venice, he confronts the Doctor, telling him "you have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves". Ultimately though, he sacrifices both his and Amy's safety to help save others and follow the Doctor into danger himself. He is sensible and cautious, but never cowardly. He repeatedly tries to help others at risk to himself, including saving the Doctor's life on one occasion, which leads to his (temporary) death.

Unlike Amy, he has a much harder time accepting the outrageous way of life on the TARDIS, complete with time travel and multitudes of alien species, though he doesn't recognize any of it as impossible. After his first encounter with the Doctor, he takes it upon himself to read up on science fiction and science, so that when he finally steps onto the TARDIS, he recognises that it's a dimensionally transcendental ship. He's intelligent, and tries to learn about his surroundings.

It takes him a long time for him to accept that life with the Doctor is the real world and to come of his own within that world. He makes the selfless decision to guard the Pandorica, containing Amy and the Doctor's message, from the past to the present day - ensuring both Amy's safety and the success of the rest of the Doctor's plan to restart the universe and save everyone. This is the extreme end of his protective tendencies, and an act that finally makes him an equal of the Doctor in Amy's eyes, though perhaps not his own. In the latest series, he has continued to defer to the Doctor's knowledge and to follow his commands (sometimes without question).

Even after the Pandorica, he can be unsure of himself, and surprised when people like him. When he receives romantic attention from anyone but Amy, he gets flustered and tries to grandstand, not used to getting that sort of attention and not knowing how to react to it from anyone but Amy.

In the latest season, there's been a bit of travel fatigue present in Rory, probably helped along by the horror of knowing he'll never be able to raise his own daughter up - instead, she helped raise him in a way, making sure that he and Amy get together. He's more or less just found out that his entire life has been influenced by the Doctor. More importantly, he knows that both Amy and River's lives are wrapped up in the Doctor's. This makes him feel like he's not the most important man in their lives - which is both true and untrue - but I think that that knowledge creates a little bit of resentment in him. He wants to be the better alternative to the Doctor, even if he knows he can't . (Of course, River and Amy might disagree on that one, but he's very insecure about himself and needs validation.)

In the God Complex we learn that he doesn't rely on faith in anything to guide him. Instead, he is forever hopeful- that he will find his daughter, that Amy will still love him, that the Doctor won't throw them into more trouble than is necessary to save the day.

Rory does not have a drive to adventure like Amy does. His biggest desire is to live a quiet life alongside her, but ultimately he will follow her forever rather than pursue that desire alone. There's a part of him that definitely loves the adventure - after all, that's what drew him to Amy - but he's more enraptured by the idea of home, hearth, and family than he ever will be by new worlds and fighting whatever alien menace is around the next corner.

[Abilities]
He has memory of the 2000 years he spent guarding the Pandorica, though he can more or less hide the experience away in his mind.

[Other important stuff]
Nothing in particular!

[First Person]

Okay...uh. Most ridiculous thing I've seen? None of the aliens. Well, there was the Sontaran with breasts, that was...odd. And completely against...well, it was odd. They're all clones, that's what he said. He was gene-spliced or something? That's some pretty impressive gene splicing, giving someone mammary glands. No wonder they've got spaceships.

No, so, none of the aliens, unless the Doctor counts. Did he ever tell you he crashed my bachelor party? Yeeeah. He jumped out of the cake. That was a hard one to explain later on. Can't exactly say 'oh, don't worry about him, he's an alien' can I?

[Third Person]

There's something really relaxing about being out by the lake. It's uncomplicated in a way that most everything in his life (or his dreaming life, he reminds himself) hardly ever is anymore. The weather is warm today, the breeze soft in a way he's not used to. For a moment, he closes his eyes and breathes in deeply, focusing on the slight push of the warm air against his skin, the green smell of grass and flowers he can't identify, the chirping of small birds. It's a spring day, but it doesn't feel like any Spring day he'd ever experienced back in Leadworth. It feels almost tropical. He half expects to see a palm tree or two, peacefully residing between the large Maple-like trees.

His lips lift in a brief smile as he reopens his eyes. This place reminds him a little of Lake Leadworth (he can blame the founders of Leadworth for the creative name) and the times he and Amy used to spend there together. There was never much to do in Leadworth, but he enjoyed that sometimes. They used to go out for walks around the lake when they couldn't find anything better to do and he could enjoy her company. His beautiful, brilliant, fiery Amy, all to himself for a few moments walking and talking beside the lake (and once, memorably, neither walking nor talking, in the bushes beside the lake).

Now, staring over different water, he wonders if the it's warm enough for swimming. Thoughtful, he bends over, searching out a skipping stone. He finds one, perfectly smooth, flat and round, and stands back up to eye his shot. In one fluid motion, practiced but not particularly skilled, he throws the stone and it hops across the smooth surface of the water once, twice, thrice, before sinking down into the murky depths.

While he's still watching, a large object suddenly breaches the surface of the water like a whale or a gigantic water snake. Rory steps back in surprise, but the mammoth animal dips back below the surface as quickly as it came. It leaves gigantic ripples that mingle with the much smaller ones from his skipping stone.

He swallows nervously and decides to explore in a different area. "Probably not the best place for a swim."

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] it's a fun concept and I think Rory is a great character to place here. Whovians have seen what makes up Rory's dreams when he, the Doctor and Amy confronted the Dream Lord, but I'd also like to see how he functions within the increasingly unreal worlds and places withing the somarium.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] The language consistencies! It's nice to know that I'll understand what everyone is trying to say!
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] From another person at Somarium
[Any questions?] Nope!
